okay so I have a dumba ss question but I am doing a brake job on a 94-97 accord with the 4 banger, and the rotors have a goofy setup to me anyways. they have 4 bolts on a bracket that holds the rotor down and one huge ass nut in the middle what do I need to take off to get the rotor off?

it's supposed to come off, but dosent. I have a 93 (previous gen) and had the same problem, the chiltons shows removing the 4 bolt and taking the rotor off. However due to the heating and cooling of brakes, even with the bolts off the rotor won't come off (even with a 5lb sledge).

damn. this is for a customer car too. but I am working with limited tools. oh well I guess. but see we can't even get the 4 bolts out.

6. there are 4 6 point bolts on some sort of bracket above the rotor itself. I have looked up write ups to see any little tips I could find. none to be found. I found one write up that showed screws. for reference purposes it is a 95 accord lx sedan. automatic.

Yeah, the Accords from those years are infamous for having a stupid brake design that's impossible to get off. I tried to do that myself once too, and I ended up having to take it to a machine shop.

I told her I couldn't do it. Put the car back together. Took the parts back to the place I got them from gave her money back and suggested that she take it to a professional shop and tell them that she needs new rotors. thanks for the help by the way!!

I dont know cuz Ive never worked on one, but would a big gear puller work? Grab the outer edges and push in the center? Like I said, never worked on one, but just offerin an idea.

I wish I could show you guys a pic to explain better...but ya know how normally they have cotter pins in the center of the hub on what looks like a huge nut? well this time there was no pin, and it appeared to me at least that the "nut" was on top of the rotor bracket or whatever you wanna call it, the peice of metal with the bolts in it holding the rotor down.

is the giant nut you are talking about the axle nut? if so you need to unstake it and get the sockety to fit and get a big ass breaker bar to get that sob off. once you have the caliper, etc off and the brake,hub and all that is attached off you can take out the bolts on the back side. leave two in and hit them with a big ass hammer and you will seperate the rotor and hub from the assembly.

nice. too bad its a little too late to do that to the last car but I'll keep that in mind for the next accord I work on. The other thing is I don't have a socket or wrench big enough to fit on the axle nut. I had a 1 inch wrench and that wouldn't fit.

from the sounds of things people say machine shop, this is an old post so im sure if you can get a hold of the thread starter he may have some advice on what he did to fix the problem. good luck.

heh heh when i did mine i cheated and did it at work, and we used an air hammer to pound the mofo's off, worked wonders but still i don't think everyone just has one of those laying around


and you say you will just live with the grinding? wrong move sir, you will be going down a hill and when they fail i bet you won't just want to "like with them"
