Troy doesnt have a real SS, he has an LS with an ss front end. I was talking about my friends dads monte carlo SS. And im not sure what you mean by 'bubble rear windshield' but i dont think it has that.

He's talking about the aero rear window. Chevrolet made them basically look like a hatchback for aerodynamics on their NASCAR racers. A certain number had to be made for the street to be competition legal. They're ugly as hell but functional. Look up pics. (im on my phone and it takes more time than its worth.)

It looks like a Camaro rear window.

It never looked shitty on a Camaro, but it kills a Monte's lines.

There wasnt even a Dale Earnhardt Edition Monte Carlo offered in the 80s. Your friends dad is just a hillbilly who slapped some #3 stickers on an SS

First offered in 2002

A major 'good thing' is that there are TONS of aftermarket parts for the G-body. From a Choo-Choo customs body panels to model specific suspension piece$e$.
Plus you can build up a 312 (I think) by using a 265 crank (3.00"), longer (i forgot)rods and 350 pistons (4.00+) that make a nice big bore fast revvin small CI motor. Kinda like they made the 302 back in the late 60's.
Good luck with it. At least some parts will be cheaper than the 4cyl stuff.

Does the motor have a VIN on it? I'm just curious, I really have no idea.

I'm guessing truck motor, or F-body. If youre lucky it could be a crate motor.

There should be a stamping up front, right under the pass head, just over the water-pump port. If it's a replacement engine, it may not show anything there, and casting 'Hecho Mexico' anywhere were the Goodwrench replacement motors. Those that I was familiar with were the '010' casting, (last 3-digits)
They're were 2/4bolts. The 2bolt ones had more meat in the main webs for splayed caps that are said to be stronger than the 4bolt ones..
For the next block you look for, Set the block on end (waterpump side down) and look right down at the cam.. Is the hole centered? If it's not keep looking. CORE SHIFT is very prevalent. I sold a really nice block to a guy that said he was going to build a motor for his daughters car, then traded for a rebuilt Jasper one.. Man, I could have given him a junk one if I knew he wasn't going to use it. There was just something about that block, everything just looked good on it..

Anyhow, Keep away from crank casting #'s that are the same from 305's and 350's.. The balance WILL BE OFF!! (ie. '442' casting)

I've got a few older books for casting #'s.
Sometimes the castings marks are just barely readable.
I can take a look fer ya.
