What about this weekend, Terrance?
I've been itchin to work on the 240 man. seriously!
I'll ask Joe off for Saturday. If I can, I'll come down Friday after work and we can do the swaps Saturday.

I'll need to weld a 3" downpipe, but I might ask Tracy to help me out with that, that way we don't have to worry about them slackin on the job and whutnot. I can cut it and mark it how I want it, and just take the piping down to him and let him weld it.

I disassembled the turbo a little bit in class today:
(sorry, didn't bring my camera, so heres some crappy camera-phone pics)

Diagnoses:
It was siezed, but I broke it loose no problem. I'm positive the bearings are shot. it will not spin by hand, but it's not that hard with a socket.
One of the 5 bolts on the DP broke at the head, so now I've got to extract 1 bolt.
The 6 bolts holding the turbine side are siezed(surprise surprise), so I stopped trying- I didn't want to break any more than I had to. I'm going to heat them up with a pencil torch and plenty of PB Blaster and see if I can get them loose later on.

ABS RINGS

ABS rings were what was causing the vibration. I ripped them suckas off with a grinder and took it to 8k numerous times...

I'm SO happy....

Now I've got to change my passenger side axle seal.

And bro... "do I have the turbo on and running?!" ?!?!?
Did you notice that I tore the turbo apart today??

I just got back in town last night & catching up on the thread.
Where did you source that turbo? I remember a few pages back that it was some junkyard gold, but do you know what vehicle?

Since we've moved on to forced induction, did you get the shaking worked out? If so, I guess I missed it. I seem to remember you saying that a lot of the suspension components were shot, but was it this vehicle or a previous? Seriously, if tie-rods & everything else is shot, how can you stand to drive the thing? Maybe I'm just anal....

The whole camber issue w/ my baby got me through the road trip fine, but didn't totally resolve the shaking when accelerating & turning. So, not sure if the camber needs more fine tuning or if I should look elsewhere. Oh well.

Good luck w/ the turbo.

*scroll up a few posts*

I fixed the majority of it. It doesnt vibrate unless I turn hard RIGHT.
*shrug*
IDK what it could be, but I'm SUPER happy I fixed the "big" problem.

Oh, and it's off of a '87 Chrysler New Yorker.

andrew too bad you already re-mentioned that you just took the turbo apart yesterday, because I was about to rip someone a new asshole ha. All you have though is the turbo, like no mani or anything? I remember you saying something about you getting one off some guy but I didn't know if you did indeed get one

Well yeah, his name is FEDDC on H-T and he does great work.

I'm still talking with him on a daily basis, and yes, he's going to build my manifold for me(log), but we are just waiting to see what happens with this turbo. Since it's a Chrysler one, the flange isn't a standard T3 flange. 3 bolts are standard but theres one odd-ball. So we're just holding off on the construction of it to see if I'm even going to use this thing! I might just save it for a SOHC motor instead of using it on my B.

Keep in mind... this tiny turbo will spool almost immediately(like 2-2.5K) and will die out REAL quick- before this B16 starts making any power...

I'm starting to think about a Super 60.... or around that size...

Huh, I've rescanned the posts & just don't see it. Now that I've adusted the camber, I only get the shaking in a hard left. FYI.

Also, LMFAO about this:

If the turbo really spools up that quick, it might not even be worth much on a SOHC. Sorry to say, but junkyard gold maybe turned into a mass of inter grown, striated pyrite crystals....

Well, it's just the size of it.... it's just a little too small for what I want it for. it'd be perfect for a grocery getter B16

You don't want that wierd Chrysler-flanged turbo, you'll have to build a manifold with a flange that no one uses. Plus it will need a complete rebuild which will be more than it's worth. Sell that shit and go back to the junkyard, there's gotta be something better than that.

What are you doin with the old D?

There's all sorts of stuff out there.. Lots of Volvo's and whatnot.

I agree though, if you think it's too small Andrew, then get a bigger one.

That works with other things aside from turbo's too

I think I'm gonna keep shopping around for something else. I wanna keep it simple and internally WG'ed if I can... so I'll do some more research and look out there at the junkyard and see whats up

I can actually return it, too

Yeah... so my cell phone died yesterday and I had to buy a new one(like $180) so I'm kinda on hold here for a bit.

when I get home I might assemble the turbo and get it ready to take back out there.
I was having a big problem getting the common shaft and turbine side off, so I would have to take it to a shop and get it pressed out, since our press here at school is kinda chanky/wobbly and we didn't wanna bend the shaft...

I think it's WAYY more trouble than it's worth.
I'll take it back today this weekend. probably Sunday.
