Wow Andrew. After almost two months, (yes, it took me that long to make time and read your entire thread) of reading, I'm finally up to date on your thread. I have to say that you have done a GREAT job as far as providing details and just being a freakin' inspiration to all. I'd bust out with a cheesy "you're my hero" but umm, yeah, I'll omit that part. haha You're freakin' talented man and I really wish you the best with your build. I look forward to hearing more about your future endeavors. I only wish I were fortunate enough to know people like you and Terrance around here to learn from. It's sad, but with my work schedule and lack of friends I guess you could say, I just learn from people like yourself and Terrance in what you have done. Once again, hell of a job my friend. Keep it up.

Rep points for you and Terrance. WOOP WOOP

I was thinking of a pedestal instead of a high horse, but that might be teetering a bit on the side. haha

*cues up the theme from Rocky* I think that might work.

Believe me, I'm trying to do what you did to an extent. It's sad to say that I have two nearly complete engines (a Z6 and a B16) just sitting here and I can't continue acquiring pieces for my build because of huge monetary issues that have hit me hard the past few weeks. Still, I will figure out a way to make it happen as I always do. I'm thinking a second job is called for nowadays, as my job is cutting my hours and yeah, that's hurting a lot.

I'd be sweet as hell to know people around here that are into cars so that I could learn and talk with. Thank God for HS and HT, which is where I get ninety-nine percent of my information from.

It's so sad, because that's where alot of people go for their info. And there's sooooooooooooooo many freaking n00bs out there who have ZERO real world mechanical experience.. I mean, actually getting dirty and bloody from workin on and screwing up yoru own stuff... And they'll go aread spreading mis-information and making everything seem all rosey and stuff. Freaking BS.

Andrew and I are fortunate, as we both have access to several great mechanics who have contributed soo much to what we have done and know how to do.

I dunno about Andrew, but I consider myself an idiot when it comes to working on cars.

It's only on rare occasions, like when my buddy and I were about to pull the head off his car and take it to a friend.. We weren't even concerned at all about doing it or anything like that at all.

I realized while we were in his kitchen, getting ready to tear his engine apart that there are soooo many people who wouldn't have a freaking clue and/or would be scared to death to do it.... But me or him weren't worried at all. We just wanted to do it as quickly/clean as possible. (took about 45 mins to pull the head).

I actually felt like I was a halfway decent mechanic for a fleeting moment .

I'll tell you what, Terrance, you and Andrew are DEFINITELY lucky to know people and have each other to help out with problems or projects you may have.

As for me, I don't really have any friends and the few people that I do know in Orlando aren't into cars at all. It makes it difficult to learn.

I know what you're saying about the "noobs" though, as it took me about six months of reading, researching, comparing, and figuring out who actually knew what they were talking about on here and who was just throwing crap out there. People like Blanco, Calesta, YBLegal, LS_VTEC, Formby, Daveholiday, and you guys are some of the most knowledgeable I have seen on here. I'd actually take the time to research some of the things talked about in different topics and compare them to actual facts that I would find. I really thank you guys for having done what you did and do wish you all the best.

By the way, did you decide on whether you're going to give up on your build and go with a different car? I ask this because just like you, I have a four door as well, though mine is an EG. I do have an EK hatchback, which will hopefully be running once again (the transmission is getting replaced) by tomorrow.

Hey Andrew, what valve train do you think you'll go with on your B16 turbo build? At least I THINK you're going to boost it. You've gotten me a bit confused at times, talking about NOS and all. haha

Yeah I've been throwing around both ideas. I have the nitrous kit, but don't want to put it on my B16. I'm going to build the B16 with a (more than likely) stock or possibly slightly lower compression setup. #1 reason being, I have the option to boost it. #2 is that I can run low octane fuel if I'm ever in a crunch and don't have any other options.

My plan right now
:
Probably in April, I'd like to swap the D back in with the lower compression headgasket and get that motor running again. Then probably spray it to 'get my feet wet' in the wide world of nitrous.

That sounds like a plan to me.

My plan on my B16 is to fully build the head up first (which I am giving myself a year to do) then work on the bottom end. I have a JDM B16 block with Eagle Rods, but may opt to part out the block and get a GSR block instead. Time is my friend on this so things could change in a years time.

As far as my D goes, it will also be built for boost. Without going into too much detail, since it is your thread, that's about it.

If I may make a suggestion, why not switch out your pistons and lower the compression that way. Of course you'd have to upgrade your rods, but then your set up would be a lot sturdier? I think that's what I'm trying to say. Vitara pistons are very inexpensive and good, as far as lowering your compression.

Then again, who am I to be throwing around ideas when you are the "master" and I am very much the apprentice, if that. haha

What size turbo do you think you would run and would you piece your set up together or buy a kit?

Holy crap. It's been two days and neither you nor Terrance has posted anything. It must be either a) you're having fun with your car or b) you're having fun with girls. I'm leaning towards the latter one. haha

Actually, I'm married :P And I do most of my online stuff at work. I mean, why be online at home when I can do the same at work and get paid for it?

Plus, I've been super busy this weekend and havn't had time to work on my car any (except a little today).

I did however, get this.....

I would have never guessed. That's awesome man. I'll be married someday...I think...I hope...haha

I'm at work right now, getting paid to type to you, so I understand where you're coming from.

*sniffs air* If my shnoz does deceive me, it looks and smells like someone is going to be messing with NOS. At least, that's what it looks like to my untrained eye. Is that for your build or Andrew's?

^ no....

I went out and fired it up to go to school. Ran in the house to crab my CD's, went back out and realized the motah was sounding funny... looked at my oil pressure gauge and it was pegged on "0". my oil pump took a crap on me. Thank god it was just in the garage and not driving down the road!

So I'm starting the tear down tonight. I'll pull the B out and put the D in this week.

Holy crap man. I'm sorry to hear that. Did anything else suffer because of this or do you think that you'll be all right just replacing the pump itself?

I'm glad, as I'm sure you are too, that you have another motor to fall back on, even as much as this really sucks. I think I would have died had this happened to me.

I'm not sure if it damaged any bearings or not. We'll see when I tear it all down

I really hope not for your sake. That would really suck. I'm sure you'll keep us updated as you've always been good at doing, so I won't ask.
