SOHC on this!!
|
Hey guys. I thought I would start my own build thread just for shits and giggles.
![]() I got my white 1990 Honda Civic Si automatic about 2 years ago. I paid $500 and drove it home, well my dad did. It had been sitting for a year and a half and cranked over and started like it was running yesterday. It was a pizza dilevery car so it had about 200,000 miles on it, it now has 218,000 miles. The first thing I did on the first day home was oil change, which was needed, plugs, wires, full tune up, ect, ect. I also cleaned the interior because it was moldy from sitting. The drivers seat was completly ripped off the rails so I temporarly put a '89 Si seat on until my uncle weleded it. Other than that the interior was and is mint. I don't get how someone didn't rip it, I was very suprised. The car had prevously been in an accident. The whole passenger side was different colors underneath. Someone had painted over the trim and mirrors and door handels aswell. It had no rust but a few dents here and there, aswell as two big ones (both size of a basketball). I had to replace an axle and all the door locks and ignition because the only key I got only started the car. It came with CRX Si alloy rims which were also painted over. I sanded them down and was going to paint them silver but gave up. I'm going for 15"s. Between the auto tranny and timing out it was very slow. First I got the timing bang on, I had to move the timing belt one tooth, then with a timing light. Then my dad and I put a '89 Civic Si 5 speed in. After all that I swear it gained 25hp. The motor is bullet proof, it doesn't burn oil and feels young I guess you could say. The first "peformance mods" I did were: ~Grant steering wheel (really O.G.) ~NGK plug wires and "V shaped" plugs ~Intake ~Integra disc brakes ~Integra booster/master cylinder and prop. valve I also got a full stereo for about $500-$600. Another vid. I'm working on a D16Z6 swap currently. I have all the parts I just have to rebuild everything now. I'm hopeing to make 130whp. I already have an intake and I'm getting a header (probably DC Sports) and an exhaust. Also my head didn't come with a "VTEC" valve cover so I got one of them too. Anyway I'll shut up for now and show some pics. The day I got it: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() __________________

I also replaced the drivers window because it was smashed out and the sunroof switch didn't work.
I'm hopeing my finished product will be: ~Mini-Me Z6 with a 10:1 CR ~Maybe a cam, we'll see ~Si tranny with a new clutch ~I/H/E, already have I, getting H/E ~Interior is already mint and the way I want it ~Brakes are really nice the way I want it ~'89 trim with the indent painted white or red ~'89 rear bumper and '90 front bumper and carve indent in ~All body work done ~Championship white paint ~Lowered on Tokico Blues shocks/struts (1.5 inches) ~Some Integra 15" rims, Blades, Fat Fives, LS Mesh We'll see what happens in the future, whatever does happen I'll put on this thread. __________________

I got a D16Z6 "VTEC" valve cover today. I didn't think they made it in Canada, I've never seen one before. I bought it from an auto wrecker for $50, bastards.
I have a dilema though. One of the spark plug seals is ripped and gaurnteed won't seal. I have good seals on the other valve cover but I can't figure how to get them out. Have any ideas? The new: ![]() The new and old (notice no VTEC): ![]() Ripped seal: ![]() So with that cover I'll get +10HP!! Dude after I get all my VTEC, Type R and SiR stickers on I'll have like 180HP!! Hell ya!! __________________

EDIT:
I got the broken one out and I won't be able to replace it for the one on my other valve cover (Completly crushed it). So I'm buying this: 92-00 HONDA CIVIC DEL SOL VALVE COVER GASKET D16Z6 D16Y - (eBay.ca item 160296508335 end time 13-Nov-08 12:30:05 EST) This is what I ended up with: ![]() ![]() When I get my block and head hot tanked I'll throw in the VTEC valve cover and paint it. I'm thinking of wrinkle red like so: ![]() What do you think? __________________

Uhhh...isn't replacing the gaskets standard procedure when swapping out a valve cover? I know I always do it...

I've never changed valve cover gaskets when removing valve covers and they have never leaked.
Well I'm not going to cheap out when I do my build. But everything on this build is going to be brand new anyway so no biggie. __________________

![]() ![]() ![]() Its an 89 DX, its almost an Si (no sunroof) stock B16 swap, wire tucked and shaved bay, CRX dash, half cage, integra rear discs, Si rear center garnish, some old school hotrod seats I got for free that I have no idea wht they came out of (not any Honda). Ive since swapped out the ricer-ish monster tach for an Si cluster with the tach in it. Ive got some plans for it over the winter, needs to be faster. ![]() __________________

I just found out I have a Exedy clutch.
Funny how that happens eh.It doesn't look any different that stock so I'm guessing its a stage 1 clutch. I'm still going to use it vs. the stock clutch. I have the matching pressure plate too. I also have a re-surfaced flywheel with 8000 miles on it. This is all going on my Mini-Me swap. ![]() ![]() ![]() __________________
