Default newb's Camaro

Alright, I finally got some pics of my car on the comp. And now Ive got a free afternoon to load em. This may turn into a build thread, we'll see how fast I move lol.

Its a '98 Z28, automatic, hard top car. It now has 123,000 miles on it. It was 100% stock when I picked it up.

It now has an LS6 intake manifold, ported factory TB, de-screened and ported MAF, SLP air box lid, K&N drop in, and a modified filter tray. Also has MSD 8mm plug wires, deleted secondary air, and deleted EGR.

Originally came with a 2.73 rearend. That got old fast, so I swapped in this 3.23, since I was able to get it complete with brakes for cheap. I went ahead and added a Mac girdled cover, and a UMI double adjustable panhard bar too.

It was way too quiet from the factory, so I picked up an SLP Loud Mouth 1 cat back system. Got a nice gain from it, and it sounds great. Itll sound better once I get headers and my off-road Y pipe though.

Thats it for now. Ill get more up soon. Thanks for lookin.

If I keep it around long enough itll end up with an all aluminum 418 cubic inch L92, with forged internals and a lil bump in compression. Itll have mildly worked heads. The L92 heads flow awesome outa the box, so I dont need to go crazy with em. Ill have a cam custom ground for it once I have the heads and intake done. Ill run the same headers Im pickin up here in a month or so, but Ill run em through a dumped H-pipe. Itll get a built 4L60E with a high stall convertor and a trans brake. And Ill round it off with a 31 spline Tru-Trac, Moser 12 bolt rear end with 3.73's. Im shootin for 550 horse at the wheels on the future setup.

Nice 'maro, though. I really like the 98-02 models, you need some nice rims, standard size up front and deep dish out back.

Ya Im plannin on gettin some Weld Drag Lites for it after I get my suspension finished up. 15x5 up front and 15x10 on 2.5 inch back space out back. Thatll look good. Someday I hope I can get some Fikse wheels. Same dimensions accept 18's.

Thats gonna look sweet as shit. Rims will make that car. Also, try doing something with the grille. I know people have either color matched or removed the black piece in the grille. (I'm a sucker for the clean/all-one-color-look of cars)

On another note... how's the mullet modification going? Growin it out pretty good now?

I would not get a moser 12bolt they are the noisest rearends you can buy i would look in to a 9in. I live about 1hr away from moser and every one around here uses there stuff and 8 out of 10 people that have one of ther 12bolts hates it its to noisey. I think that the other 2s cars exhaust is so loud they dont care. As for a converter dont skimp out I would use a Precision I would not use a Yank, TCI, or CircleD we build 1-3 4l60/65/70Es a day at work and you would not blieve how many come back trashed because of a converter failure. If you want a solid trans check us out www.rpmtransmissions.com and we offer a brake also we now have a newer faster brake than the typical 4l60e brake it is about twice as fast but still not as fast as a pro tree brake in a powerglide or TH400 we have a also we have a new in box LS2 with L92 heads comes complete from pan to intake as all sensor and injectors flywheel and water pump $4500 + shipping

Well Im gunna leave the grille black, but Im gettin one that doesnt have the lisence plate bracket, and itll be gloss black. In the center it has a red bow tie, its pretty sweet lookin.

The mullets good. I got the "bussiness in front" perfected. Now Im workin on the "party in back."

Ive always been told I can get rid of the noise with different gear sets, maybe not? Id like to keep with GM parts, just like I stuck with all FoMoCo in my Ford. Im weird like that lol. For the converter I planned on using a Yank. A friend has a 3k TCI that Im gunna try to get for the tranny Im runnin now. I definatly take a look at your stuff, I was down to Rossler and Performa Built. The deciding factor was the brake, which I dont believe Performa Built has. As for the engine, itll more than likely be piece by piece. Id like to build it myself.

One question, Ive got a set of Strano springs goin on my car in the next month, how much ground clearance will I loose with the deep pan? The car will see a lot of street use, and some of those streets arent the best lol.

Rossler makes good stuff but im not to fond of his 3-4 clutchpack. I would stay far far away from performabuild i do not like there stuff at all you pay way to much and all they do is a stock rebuild and block off the acumilators and change the servo they dont last and shift like crap

i would not use that tci conver if you paid me to they are by far the worst.

as far as the deep pan you have to run one with the brake the stock pan dosent have the room for it. The deep pan is about 1.5in deeper than a stock pan.

While your waiting for the new engine, try some nitrous. LS's LOVE nitrous, so long as you keep the timing retarded a bit and dump a little more fuel. We had an 01' at school that would take 100 shots all day long.

sexy Camaro. Wish I could find a cheap ls1 for my t/a. Goofy question but why don't you just boost the ls1, build the tranny like you talked about, get it tuned and run around 5-7 psi? I could be wrong but I am guessing that would be cheaper than the swap?

Ya Ive got 2 friends runnin nitrous. Ones at a 75 shot and the other is at 125. I would but mine just has to many miles on it for me to be comfortable with nitrous.

They pop up every now and again, but go fast lol. I would boost it, but its got too many miles. Im waitin on a LS1 shortblock from one of my friends. Once I get that, its gettin new rings, bearings, and ARP hardware. Once thats done Ill most likely spray it.

After I get my headers and Y pipe it has a chance. The group I hang out with has 2 more 3.23 automatics. One setup identicle to mine, and the other already has headers and the Y pipe. The one with full exhaust did 12.8, and the other with manifolds ran a very low 13. Both of them were on way better tires tho. I gotta wait until March to get it on the track though.

Strano Performance springs. They advertise 1.75" drop, but I wasnt worried about how far they lower the car. I was lookin for a 150 pound spring rate for the rear, and these have it.

A Texas Speed, Magic Stick 3 cam. It specs out 237/242, 603/609, and this one is on a 112* LSA. They make really good power, and sounds badass.

Got a set of heads I gotta send out for some work. The cam and heads will be goin on the new block with a few other parts off the engine in the car now. More pics soon.

Good lookin car! Had a friend that had a 97. I did like the headlights better than the 98+, but they're nice none the less. It had an lt1 in it. The thing would kick ass. He was friends with the guy that was selling it to him, and he was letting him drive it until he got the loan, too bad he never mentioned anything about salvage title...

Glad to hear that you are gonna build the ls1. I am curious to see what it runs after all said and done.

My buddy had a 93 firebird with an lt1 in it. Cat-back exhaust, and a cold air intake, I was pretty impressed with the power of that car shockingly enough.
