A friend and fellow drag racer passed away a few weeks ago. Here is a video of Jose Rodriguez and his car during an NHRA Sport Compact event back in April 2006. Rest In Peace Jose. You will remain in our hearts.

Damn, I'll be double checking my jackstands from now on. Awful way to go.

RIP.
Now I'm scared of working on my car tomorrow...I'm pulling the tranny and i'm going to be under there for a while. Getting crushed by a car that falls is one of my biggest fears. __________________

I always have a hard, un-tipable object at least the thickness of my head/torso under the car. If it fell, it would damage the car, but I'd be ok. Usually a pair of ramps. (I put the car on jack stands, but I slide the ramps under the car as a secondary safety) The car isnt resting on them, but if it fell, they would catch it before I did. Cinder blocks would probably work in a pinch, or a large chunk of railroad cross tie.
Food for thought, anyway. RIP man. __________________

Thanks for the comments. His girlfriend is going to be racing the car this year for the entire season. The orange civic recently made 777 WHP a couple weeks ago and they are getting it ready for the first NHRA event. Thanks again. |
