Default Wikedeye's EJ b16 build thread

I have been working on my 93 eg coupe for about two years now. I have done quite a bit of work on the interior and suspension, but I have been looking and waiting for an engine. Well today I finally purchased my second civic (two cars at once for the first time), which just happens to have a b16 in it, for $800. The car is a wreck and is too far gone to repair, but the engine sounds beautiful. The car has a gsr tranny, exedy clutch, dc header, adj. cam gears, rear disc conversion, p73 ecu, and a bunch of other random stuff (like gauges, etc.). I am going to do an oem rebuild. I have thought about what I want out of this car and all i really want is a little more power. I have done some research on different parts and I think for right now I want to stay stock. I am going to have the head rebuilt and get a three angle valve job. Other than that I dont plan on doing too much else. I am really using this engine to learn, so once I have finished building a realliable engine, I will get another one and build it for power.

Here are some pics that I took today.

Here is a video of the engine running. The sound quality is bad, but it is the best I can do right now.

I have been trying to find out why someone would use the p73 ecu (I think I put 72 before) with a b16a. I know it is used for the b16b, but is there a benefit on a b16a, or would I just be better off getting a p30.

Good luck finding a P30. They're kind of rare. You would be better off finding a p28 since they are more common and going with that. I hope to hear more about your build as it goes on and wish you the best on it.

Wow, that Civic looks like a classic rice-mobile. Ugly body-kit with chicken wire, fugly-ass CR-X rims that don't match the car at all, pins on the stock hood, in a stupid-looking location to boot! Yep, it's all there...

I'd be somewhat worried that the engine hasn't been beaten all to hell, but then again, it sounds like you're going to pretty much rebuild the whole thing, right?

Those aren't meant to be hood pins, they're meant to be nipples as to show that the car is owned by a very masculine guy.

Ah, sleep is coming over me fast.

I dont have a pic of it but it starts via a nos switch (turn on the ingintion, push the switch). I am definitely going to rebuild the engine, but it really does run pretty well. It sounds like it needs a timing adjustment.

It did have different seats before, but the guy sold those and yes the dash and panels are covered in leather. This car is getting stripped for usable parts and then scrapped unless anyone wants the empty shell.

I'd say your doing that poor car a service by letting it die, it and the automotive world say .

Yeah I feel its better to let other civics partake in the usable parts from this car and get what I can for the leftover scrap metal. Anyway here are some pics of the eg that b-series is going into. I have replaced almost the entire interior (notice the tan e-brake). All the suspension is new Skunk2 all around, Energy bushings, momo tuner wheel, I have a rear disc conv. and wilwood front kit that I havent put on yet because I have just been lazy.

What do you think?

Your EG brings a tear to my eye. It looks great and will be a lot happier with the B16 in it.

It was originally tan, but the person I bought it from painted most of it blue, and tried to dye the back seats black and it pretty much looked like shit. I just need seat belts and an e-brake to finish, and the front door panels are the blue ones, I just painted them to match the rest until I can find an oem pair. It is pretty hard to find them with manual windows, but you can throw a rock blind folded and hit a set with power windows.

Thanx for the compliment Luis. She has been asking for a b16 for a long time.

So its been a few days and I havent been able to start pulling the engine yet, but I have cleaned it off really well and started to take inventory of the usable parts. I have a few question though. Are the mounts used in a 98 the same ones that I need or will there be differences. I know I need b series mounts, but I dont know if it is the same for the 98. Also I should be able to use the same axles right. I have looked at the swap articles here and on honda-tech to compare what is needed for each car. I just want to be sure.

I believe all you need to do is change the transmission mount and you will be ready to go. Someone correct me if I am wrong.
