Default Repainting some parts, need advice

So my Spoon style mirrors have seen better days so I figured I'd color match them to the car as well as my oem side skirts. Well my hood and f. bumper are also in need of some fresh color. I'm just looking for some advice on how to do it all. The mirrors and side skirts I'm thinking a good cleaning, primer, color, clear with wetsanding if needed since I'm probably going to rattle can it. Would that work ok?

And now I need advice on the hood and bumper which are already painted. How should I go about prepping them for paint? Will a rattle can give me good results or is it worth it to rent a gun and take a shot (no pun intended) with that? This will be my first attempt at painting anything car-wise. Just looking for some advice.

if your spoon mirrors are just black.. leave the base black and paint only the part that sticks out off the car.. i think they look tons better that way..

let me see if i can find a pic of what i'm talking about

I'd strongly suggest NOT painting the skirts. Rock chips will have them looking like ass in no time.

Meguires has some stuff thats kinda like armor-all, but for exterior plastics. I use it on the jeep's body armor.. Makes it look new, and lasts a good 2 weeks. Not greasy, doesnt attract dust. Exterior Trim Detailer G13415 Product Information

They look fine for plastic but I figure primer, paint, and a clear coat will last awhile. Worst case scenario they look like shit and I have to strip them.

if your gonna paint the plastic stuff i suggest first washing with hot soap water then scuff it down with a grey scotch pad, then get some adesion promoter from a auto body supply store and it comes in a buzz bomb. use that and also put on a flexable primer, then sand and paint like you already stated. theres a more technical ways to do it but since your a do it your selfer this would be easiest and work the best.

I found that plastic painting was vastly improved when using a coat of Ceramic Spray putter 1st... then spraying over the top with Adhesive primer and so forth... it was an experiement (the putty as i wanted to Sand some interior Plastic) worked better than expected and provided extra strength due to the ceramic coat.
