I have a steering wheel from a second gen CRX i believe. Anyway just before i got home i hit a rather nasty bump which seemed fine. But after a couple of turns i noticed a clacking noise in the steering wheel. At first it just sounded like the keys hitting the wheel. Until i pushed on the cover (my horn doesnt work there so thank god for that), it was wobbly and its almost completely off except the one side which seems either stuck or held on by a screw or something, i have no idea how these things work. Couple of springs came out too. How do you take off the cover?
1stGen into 2ndGen Rex This is the wheel im talking about just so you know (first one). Thanks humble.

Behind the Honda logo is a bolt. You can pop that "H" off with a flat head, and then get yourself a socket and a ratchet with some extensions. I can't remember what size it is though.

No i believe thats how you take the wheel off itself. I mean to take off the cover where the horn is.

lol it wasent any worse than normal, but it always felt a little loose when i would push on the imaginary horn. The horn was relocated to a button under the coin holder due to too much wiring problems just so you know.

Ok i thinks its a first gen steering wheel but i dont think it matters. I figure its held on by screws, but im wondering how the hell you get a screwdriver in there plus i dont know if they are torx bits.

If one side is already pretty much off, just pry the rest off. You can prolly pick up another stock steering wheel for cheap. Then you will know what's up, and won't have to worry about trying to fix that one.

^ I would say just rip the thing off and see what happens.
BTW the bolt behind the H is a 19mm.

after you take the steering wheel off with a 19mm socket there are about 4-5 phillips screws that you take off on the back and the front cover comes off. keep in mind i did this on my 90 ef si. i tried ripping off the front cover on another wheel and it fu*cked the whole thing so DON't do that. hope you didn't rip it off yet

Well i didnt rip it off per-say, it come off on its own. The culprit you ask? Most, if not all the screw holes are stripped. Metal screws with plastic threads always end in tragedy. I have no idea how it happened, must have been loose before and the repeated vibration and bumps wore it out. Again it came with the car so its nothing ive done. At the moment its been set in its place and electrical taped on. I know i know, but if you knew me you'd know that i am not one for "ghetto rigging" anything. In fact id go out of my way and spend more money on a brand new part than a nearly new part. So this hurts me to tell you.
Yes, there are screws on the underside and behind the wheel which must be take out to remove the cover. It looks to be a pain to do and might need a flexible screwdriver. Its off and will never go back on again. It actually looks aright and neat (black tape, black wheel). You wouldnt know unless your in the drivers seat and thanks to the miracle of electrical tape its snug yet can move a bit. I am now in the market for new aftermarket wheel or another honda one, we will see. The list goes on, stupid little things keep breaking keeping me a little farther from my actual engine building. First the hatch cable, then the recent blower motor and now the damn steering wheel. Sorry for the rant, thanks everyone for the help. Never knew a steering wheel could be such a pain.
