| So I got the dreaded dimming when ever my bass hits. The system isn't huge so the dimming isn't drastic, just slightly noticeable. My only option at this point is a better battery. I do not want to add a secondary battery. Cap is not an option as that would just be another load on the electrical system and won't help my dimming. So i'm looking for a good replacement battery for my entire vehicle. Something with low internal resistance so it can give output easy when demanded by the amp and recharge quickly by the alternator. Only option i've found so far is the Optima Yellow Top. They don't make a Red Top anymore to fit in the stock location. I don't have much experience with deep cycle batteries and hear they don't respond very well to being constantly charged by the alternator. If this is just a myth, tell me so... I've looked at Oddessey and at Braille but their websites suck and don't clearly say which one I would get so I can put it in the stock location. Any ideas at what would fit my needs?

| Finally someone who gets that all a cap is another load on the system. Now do ya live in some place that actually gets cold in the winter? If so i would not reccomend the yellow top,I had one in mine as the main battery and in the winter time it would crank really slow cause it doesn't have alot of cold cranking amps. If you don't live in a cold climate this is not an issue and is a good solution to your problem. I have also ran the Oddessey batteries and they are pretty good too. The other thing you could look into is a higher amp alternator. That would solve the dimming issue but is a little higher cost than a battery replacement. I always used ohio generator alternators in my car but right now the site is down. |

| I can verify that a cap is not just another load on a system. I have installed my fair share and they do stop the drain on a battery when bass hits. It is a storage unit that holds energy. It does need to be charged (not sure if the is the best word) when its been installed (simple instructions are usually included). I have stopped lights from dimming with these a lot. It holds the spare energy/electricity needed to not suck power from other accessories. (like the headlights) Edit: An alternator may be a solution too (one with more amps)

| how do you figure it is not another load? when bass hits it drains the cap and if said cap is not big enough it wil still dim the headlights now not only does the alternator have to charge the battery but also recharge the cap. That my friend is a drain on the system. Yes it does work in some cases but it is like putting a bandaid on an amputation. |

| The cap will not empty that fast. If it does....Its not enough ferrets. The cap is more of a trickle charge as it fills back up...so it won't suck energy from the battery. What you speak of would make a capacitor a waste of time but I have too much experience with capacitors and I must disagree. |

| Neon Boy.....You can be an asshole and try to minimize my point of view. Does nothing but prove you are an asshole. You just had to be a jerk didn't you?......so Fuck Off. I been messing with big stereos long enough (20+ years) and you retort was a bash at my spelling skills on my iphone. You should have based your response on the content of my post rather than the spelling of one word......so......once again, Fuck Off. B16 good luck. Edit: B16......I called my buddy who owns a car stereo shop (over 30 years in business). I was so pissed......so I called him. He agreed with my understanding of a cap and told me that it could be a decent fix (with the appropriate amount of farads) but he has often gets better results from a bigger alternator......especially in small imports. He also told me about this battery company that is a great product. I found their website if you want to look http://www.kinetikpower.com/2009/default.asp

| So i am the asshole who suggested an alternator in the second post but you had to call someone who told you exactly what i said. And also if you want to get a cap that has enough farads it is not even remotely cost effective. Caps are for burp systems which sole purpose is to ease the draw from a battery bank during a burp at a competition. It is not the fix for something that your going to use for extended listening. I am not sayin you know nothin about car audio but i am sayin that whatever you have been taught about caps is the same thing everyone is taught,it is the universal fix for dimming lights. |

I'm more than likely going to jump on that Kinetik but IDK how they do in cold climates. All it mentions is extreme temps. Any idea? That Stinger won't fit the OEM location | |

| lol yeah that is about the area i was finding them for. I am pretty sure if the cheapest you could find it for was 400 you would be buyin an alternator and a regular battery. |

| what did you end up getting? I've always had good luck with a single yellow top on my imports and larger truck. it was large enough to keep a steady flow of juice on 1000 rms without dimming them. All of the other batteries are great but i was curious with your result |
