Default what way should the subs fire.

well since i took the old pics down, i'm gonna just post my new setup on the fron page. Right know that only thing in the future is to get a 300/4 to fill the gap in the box and new speakers to replace the stocxkers in the back.

very nice and tight. Killlswitch,Thrice, any metal no matter how fast the kick drum this set up doesnt miss a beat.

there is no "real" way. its all preference by your ear. try them in a few different configurations.

i had one set in my hatch that sounded better pointing up, another that sounded better pointing back.

Find out what frequency wavelength you want to reinforce, calculate how long it is, then place the subs so that the sound reaches your ear after traveling an exact multiple (or half) of that wavelength.

The big kicker? The Warhorse? or just the zx2500.1?

Anyways..what Calesta said is pure shiite. You have to just see what works best for you.

Yes. Very much pure shit... but there is a science to it- I just didn't take many acoustics classes in college. Not my field of study.

you had to make this scientific didnt you?

Well hopefully sometime this week i'll try to combine the 2 boxes by putting a top and bottom plate that extend the face of the subs. That way they can be about 3-4 inches from the ground firing somewhat at and angle away from each other.

The best thing about these subs is that they only need .5 a cube for a sealed enclosure. The boxes a nailed/gorilla glued and have a double face. Thes little boxes weigh an assload for a 10'' sub. Besides my 13w7. These things are the best most reponsive subs i have ever heard.

It is related to acoustics, but in a car its a bix more complex than normal. Because of the wavelengths involved - bass frequencies do not propogate like they do in free space. You're dealing with pressure modes which aren't as easy to describe due to the very wild shape and lossiness of the vehicle.

I'm not too "up" on acoustics either, i've studied more transducer theory and radiation.

Of course I did. You can always find the science in stuff. It's fun! I taught Katie's 2nd grade class all about Bernoulli and some of them actually understood it. Fun fun fun.

I want a 13w7!

Yeah. Cars as acoustic environments are insanely complex.

Best sounding big sub i have ever owned. Matched with the 1000/1 and it was a monster. i played notes i never thought possible. And the low hertz were just insane. You couldnt really hear them but my pontiac's rear panels were flexing like crazy.

This week i think i'm gonna get another 1000/1. Thanks for the input guys. Es[ecially you Tommy. i'll post pics once i start getting the stuff together.

i agree with Calesta i have installed car audio for the last 10 years. it all depends on what sound you wanna reproduce if you want the deeper then fire them back you want better sound around 80-100 fire them up. but what i have learned about the civic, is fire them back and listen to the car rattle apart. fire them up and listen to the roof buckle. it just depends on the car.

yeah but this is a truck. The subs are right behind me. I dont want to fire them up because i need to be able to put somethign back there. I dont want to lay stuff on the subs, plus i'll be able to hear them moving which i dont want. I'll see if i can fire them back today just to see. I just had a really bad weekend so building the new enclosure Sunday was pretty much a no go. Sometime this week i'll get on it.

And i have a feeling the wife will be gettign me a JL 500/1. which is ok.

well sometimes space is an issue with sub boxes. just get creative. and remember that properly laid fiberglass is just as good as mdf. also keep in mind that you can always get speaker covers. Just think outside the box when it comes to making a sub box. no pun intended

yeah i'm doinf something alittle creative with this box. They are gonna face down at an angle away from each other. The amplifier wil be mounted on top so i can have access to the wires and settings.

I def. don't like the speaker covers. They have always looked gay to me. i like the sub to look like the sub. If it were in the trunk where i put alot of stuff then yeah. But not if i can help it.

thanks for the input man. Once i slow down on the side jobs and stupid parties i'll get on building this enclosure. stay tuned for the pics sometime this week.

I have also been told to fire them down. Thats what i'm planning on doing but i need here some of you guys opinions.

Right now they are firing away from each other since they are in seperate sealed boxes. They sound great in alot songs. Its just that some others sound like they cancel each other out.

The setup is 2 Boston G-5 subs wired at 1 ohm to Fosgate 600X1 amp. Hopefully in 2 weeks i'll pick up either the jl 1000/1 or the big kicker digital amp. Dont know the model.

These things pwned

UPDATE :

well my original idea flopped. it was to big, oddly shaped and just sorry. So after the 2 hours me and my dad spend I decided to rip it apart and start over with a simple smaller design that i should have done in the first place. The box facing down is by far the loudest. Only problem is that the subs are inthe middle so that where the sound is mostly focused,,,,,,in the middle, But nonetheless oh well.

Once i get another amp i'll put a top plate on the box for the JL to be mounted. until then enjoy the pics.

this was the final design

once i get the amp. I'll finsh the carpet and finish hidint the wires. It was really rainy/foggy so i had to hurry up.

bumping bump

i relocated the hole where the wire would come out. Unfotunately i didnt caulk the old hole. Now i have an air leak I have to wait until i carpet it to take the subs back out and fill the hole with liquid nails.

Funny though. i move the box acouple inches to the drivers side and now it sound better. The bass still feels harder AND it feels more filling rather than in 1 specific spot. All in all this design is the best. louder, stealthy and safer for the subs.

well since i got a bigger amp i knew i had to upgrade the electrical system.

away with the puny wiring and 60amp fuse

had to take the seats out to be able to run the wires under the seat. on a truck like this you cant run any wire bigger than 8awg on the sides like every other vehicle.

working on getting a new slot ported box built. I'll have pics of the amp and new carpeted box soon
