Default 1stGen into 2ndGen Rex

So, the stock steering wheel in the 2ndGen Crx has always really bugged me. Never could quite put my finger on it, but since it's right there in front of me all the time, it's only gotten worse over time.

Mine doesn't have the stitched "leather", though....

Then, while looking for upper control arms for the rex, I found a mint first gen crx wheel.

Score. What an easy swap, too, right?
It looks great in the car & I'm really happy w/ the swap. There's just one problem. It's too shallow. So I keep hitting the turn signal and wiper sticks w/ knuckles. This has made the car almost undrivable.

I am completely unwilling to go back to my old wheel, but I can't figure out how to make this work. I've been to like, three different parts store...hell, I even went to home depot today...and I still can't figure this out. Am I the only person in the world to have ever done this? Inconceivable!

I'm just about ready to slice and dice the sticks to move them away from the wheel.

I only need an inch, inch & 1/2 or so of extra clearance to be happy.

Any thoughts or help would be very appreciated.

Decided for one last attempt on this.

Breaking out the JB Weld, so you know I'm serious.

Success! Sort of any way. The JBWeld has given me about 1/2in extra room, which I can live with. So...yay!

Check out my centerpiece there. I pulled the CRX garnish off the b-pillar from the same car and with a dremel, some more JBWeld, polyurethane clearcoat, & lots & lots of sanding I merged the boring old H with this sexy new CRX!

Aren't you jealous?
