I have a 91 Civic that won't start. It will turn over but it just won't start. I can't hear the fuel pump prime at all, even when I pulled the back seat up. But any way I tried to take the fuel pump off to see if it was doing anything, but I don't know how to take the pump off. So any info at this time would be great. Thank You.

How do you know its the fuel pump? It might be your main relay. But to get to the fuel pump you have to drop the tank.

Well we pulled up the back seat and it's right there. And on the 92-95 civic it's the same way.

That cover is for the sending unit, the acutal fuel pump is about 8 inches behind that, you have to drop the tank to get to it trust me.

Well damn, the main relay you were talking about how would I go about fixing that? I don't mess with fuel pumps and wiring that much as you can tell. Oh and it can't be a fuse I checked that.

Get a ratchet and a 10mm socket. Remove the lower dash trim, remove the two bolts holding the hood release to the wall, then reach up, remove the one bolt holding the main relay, unplug it, and reverse for reinstallation.

Or run live 12 V to the pump. If it doesn't run, it's bad. If it does it's something else.

If it's the pump, I would suggest that you take it in. Even for more experienced mechanics, tanks can cause headaches as the lines are almost always rusted to piss. Same with the bolts. Speaking from Michigan that is, if you are south, that's probably going to be different.

I'm from the south, I don't have rust problems. But the cars has been sitting around for 2 years. I'll try the 12v battery idea. Thanks a lot.

Ok, I took my NRG Nano performance battery to the plug and there was nothing. I didn't "plug" the wires in I just took them and touched two open wires to the male plug. Would that work or would I have to cut the female plug and make a new one?

I'm assuming that's a car battery...

Yeah, as long as it's charged up good and you are making good contact, it should have fired up

Yes, it is a car battery, but it is small and I mean small. It looks like a motorcycle battery. Like 9 lbs at 180 AMPs.

Well got the old fuel pump out, and boy does it look like crap. It has rust all over it, from top to bottom. I hooked it up to a battery and it did nothing... it's dead. Were going to drain all of the gas tomorrow, and go from there.

LOL, wow, obviously you don't live anywhere close to me. On a 15/20 year old car, you might as well kiss any fittings on the fuel/brakes goodbye. It probably would have taken me several hours to drop the tanks on my CRX. The strap bolts are so rusted that I doubt that I would be able to get them withoug breaking or cutting them.

Well goodluck, also, why drain the gas and replace the tank... just replace the pump. I believe this one should work for your application.

Oh I'm not replacing the tank itself, just the pump. We're taking the old gas out. I did that at first but didn't get all of it out because we didn't jack the car up on the front left hand side. But thanks for the fuel pump price on ebay.
