88 rex w/ b16a. alllright.. so here goes. in the morning when im letting it warm up, it will bog out, then go back to idle, then bog out again continually until it warms up. once it warms up its fine at an idle, but when im driving at a steady speed (foot at a steady spot on the accelerator.. not accelerating or decelerating) it will start to feel like im letting off, then hitting the gas, letting off then hitting the gas... but my foot really is steady! but if i go to accelerate i have no problems. Spark plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor, fuel pump, fuel filter are all new. Throttle body is clean, ran a fuel injector service the other day, helped a bit.. then problem came back. I'm beginning to think it could be the catalytic converter building up too much backpressure? i dont know where else to look

yep both O2 sensors connected, in correct position, are wired correctly, and are functioning properly.

i've had catalytic converter and ignition module probs that created similar symptoms. in the case of the cat, my catalyst had asploded and then the chunks plugged the pipe, temps got hot and some sludge formed...i'd get random boggies when the chunks would plug/unplug. new cat and i couldn't believe the 'power' my car had (seriously it was a noticeable improvement).
as for the ignition module (in the dizzy housing), the rpms would actually fluctuate..like 'tic' down about 200rpms intermittently, and not with any solid reproducibility. then it got worse..much worse. hope that helps you confirm or deny your own problems |

alright its not the catalytic converter.. im throwing an intermittent tps code, and im pretty sure the ground for the tps is breaking up somewhere.. i leave for cali for 10 days tomorrow so ill mess with it some more when i come back... it gives a little pop out of the exhaust when it happenes, and the idle jumps up and down during cold idle now.. once the check engine light pops on... it runs perfect? ill update after i get back

Just figured id keep this post updated.. i got the wiring schematic for the TPS at the ECU connector side, so tomorrow at work im gonna check for signal, or loss of signal or ground, and make sure the timing is still dead on, the light on the ECU is flashing a TPS code, but my check engine light is not on... i usually have to drive a bit for the light to come on in the dash.. so im guessing its in the wiring or the ECU bc the sensor is new and is giving a good signal. I'll update with whatever i find tomorrow.

Check the pins in the connector for corrosion.

allright.. one thing i didnt put in my last post was that when the CEL actually comes on.. the problem stops and the car runs great... well today i went to check it out and the CEL popped on.. so disconnected the battery and reset the ECU and so far i cant get it to act up again... so hopefully it holds out. althought id still like to know what it was
