1990 honda civic, zc motor with db6 written on the head. my question is, is the db6 a zc motor? i know it sounds noobish but i really can't find much info on the motor.
secondly what is the correct ecu for this motor? currently i'm running it on a pm7 obd0 i believe. is this the correct setup? is this a obd1 motor, is a change of ecu necessary or can the pm7 work perfectly fine with no problems? i'm not a rich guy but i do want to see this car running nice and smooth and i'm still trying to learn so any help with be appreciated. pics are posted below. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

oh i forgot to mention, there are quite a few electrical problems i'm trying to save up and work through but the last time the electrician told me it could possibly be the ecu.
never had any cash at the time so i could only get him to give me ideas of possible causes from the electrical problems i'm facing. |

when i bought the car the previous owner mentioned that the motor was from an integra (don't remember the year). i got from a friend some time ago a p76ecu, never installed it but now i'm thinking could one of the reasons for some of the problems i'm having is that the dizzy is a obd1 dizzy and i'm running an obd0 pm7 ecu. am i on the right track here? should i install the p76 or leave as is?

looks like a sohc non-vtec ZC to me.
these should help: ZC swap info ZCs, and D15Bs the ecu obd needs to match the distributor obd along with the injector type (resistor box for obd0 or peak/hold, none for obd1or saturated). does your car have a resistor box? near shock tower drivers side// see attached for sample __________________

check the plugs... cream colored = obd0 grey = obd1
as outlined here: How To: Wire your own OBD-0 to OBD-1 Distributor Wiring adapter. |

its 1am, just went 3stories down around the back of the apartment building to the car just to take a few more engine bay pics and see the colour the distributor plugs. they are cream colored, checked all over engine bay still no resistor box. so that means i'm running obd0 then?

SOHC on this!!

Distributor is OBD0. Thoes injectors look like OBD1, need color of plugs again, and the car is DPFI when the motor is MPFI. Search DPFI to MPFI swap. Thats why its not running.

and if these are obd1 injectors what are the major differences between them and obd0...i was of the assumption that injectors were just injectors until upgrading |

SOHC on this!!

The box should be in the top right corner of the bay behind the shock tower. But if the injectors are OBD1 you don't need the box.

ZC engine with serial number beginning with '6' is SOHC OBD1 non-VTEC - the intake manifold and fuel rail would confirm to me that it is OBD1 engine - it does appear to have the OBD0 distributor on it - look on the top of one of the distributor attaching arms where it should be stamped TD02U or TD18U - since it doesn't have the injector resistor box, i would assume that it has the OBD1 injectors - the correct ECU to run the engine as OBD0 would be the PM6 - the PM7 is the DOHC ZC OBD0 ECU
what electrical problems are you having? __________________

electrical problems include: a short in electrical wiring, if i leave the battery terminal connected over night the battery runs down but if i reconnect everytime i use the car it'll work just fine. temp gauge doesn't work its always says down like the car is off gas gauge doesn't work, it always stays up like the tank is full speedometer doesn't work, always stays down like car is off rev meter works just fine from what i see. car does this misfire thing from time to time. always thought it was because the engine was cold because it only happens when the car hasn't been started all day. when the engine warms up then it doesn't sound like that any more. |

these all seem like different generations of miss-matched parts that can work just slapped on, i want to know what needs to be changed so that it works as its suppose to whether i should re-wire for obd1 and get a new dizzy and drop in the p76 ecu i have here with me now or find myself a resistor box get some obd0 injectors and a pm6 ecu or if the current setup should work fine without any hiccups. just looking to make the car work as its suppose to then i can move on to fixing other things until its time to upgrade or do mods (which won't be for a very long time so i would like to be a lil less problem free bfore that) |
