Default overheating

my car is overheating at stops low gears. i turn on the heat and it goes down high speeds im good. ol i checked the fans and they work, i dont see leaks or puddles under the car even after i let it run hot for 20 minutes. but heres the thing that got me real confused i fill up the radiator with fluid and the reserve ad recomended about a gallon of fluid i have put in the past 2 weeks. and everytime i check the fluids when it overheats its bone dry. i did buy the car used so im still figuring out whats wrong with it. could it have been that bone dry that its taking all the fluids? any and all help is appreciated. thanks in advance.

Do you have a crack on your radiator that you can't see like I did? How long has it been since you replaced your thermostat? Is your head cracked, warped and has your car overheated? If so, you may have to replace your head gasket and or get your head, what is it, shaved or milled in order to get it straigtened out?

i bought this car little over a month ago so as far as i know no the thermostat has not been changed. there are no puddles when the car sits over night or when i keep it running like for the 20 minutes i did toay to see if there were any leaks. theres no puddles of any fluids at anytime. radiator seems old but fine no leaks to the eyes and no radiator fluid anywhere.

Rad cap check and see whats going on in your overflow tank.

Here is a tip, get the car nice and warm, preferably in the morning while its still cool out or when there is condensation on your car, get out real quick open the hood and look for steam. I had to do that 3 times before i finally saw some steam and rad fluid burning on the block. It was a small coolant hose clamp that was loose going to the intake manifold.

Get a flush and maybe a pressure test if you cant find it right away. And like everyone else said check the main signs of a leaking HG.

Well anything from the interior will be the heater core. Check for any wet spots on the carpet or mats, that should guarantee the heater core leaking.

Usually if the water pump is going you should be able to hear a squeaking or howling. From a bearing i believe.

If you cant find it yourself a rad place would be your best bet.

Good luck and keep us posted.
