Default swapping a 93 civic d16 z 6 into a 89 civic hatchback

I pretty new at this tryin to swap a 93 civic d16z6 ex from a
sedan into a 89 civic hatch, vtec into a non vtec.diffrent engine
same tranny.

-will the engine fit the 89 civic transmission?
-will the engine mount fit the hatch?
- can I cut the wiring harness and reconnect it together?
-cause it's totally different? on the engine bay..
-what about the engine mounts and ecu and shifter linkage?
-do I have to replace all those thing too.. it's so hard to swap
for the first time espicially when ur running out of $$$$$ :conf used:

-the motor will fit the tranny, just use the clutchkit and flywheel from the original setup..
-the mounts are the same, direct boltin
-no do not just cut the harness and put it back together..you have to go from dpfi-mpfi(if its not an si)
-you need the ecu from the donor car
- the only hard pat is the wiring

yo man thanks for the advice, I im pretty new at this
so you might have to walk me through this..haha

well some of my my questions is:
-how do I take of the shift linkage that bolts in with the tranny from the 93 civic
-do I need any nessacry parts from the 93 civic...? that's not with the engines
but on the engine bay after you take the engine out? wires, pumps, fuel pumps etc....

the shift linkage will have a rubber boot right next to the tranny..pull it back and there will be a pin going through where it connects..get a smaller phillips screw driver and a hammer..pound it out,,the linkage will slide back and be free
you should grab the radiator from the civic(if its a half size..)
but grab the motor, tranny, linkage, axles, and all the hoses that go to the motor..

I took all the bolts, hoses, harness connector out allready
I im just in the process of lifting the engines out >

so what u mean is used the 93 shifter linkage, axles, radiator and hose to put on the 89 civic.
will the axle fit the 89 tranny?
here's my story from the begining on the car, if you decided to read it.
-I wouldn't even bother to do all this swap thing if the tranny did'nt fail on me the other thing is
if I did'nt see that civic for sale in the news paper, but it fail on me and I saw that civic so -when I was driving that car (93 civic)my old car- looks like the tranny was grinding it, so I thought it was the clutch so I took the tranny out and bought new clutch put everything back on well the shifter shift in place 1,2,3,4,5,R but my axle won't spin the wheels won't spin, some shop person said it was my spider qear, they told me to fix for about $500 bucks or just buy a used one for that price, so I saw this 89 hatch dx with out no engine has a tranny though and they have taken the motor out a year ago, because that motor in there was bad so they were selling in the paper for $300 bucks take the whole thing they said so I did, I always wanted that car in the past years cause people said its lightweight and fast if you got a good motor in it. so I decided to purchase it and decided to swap it out so here I am wholla ....I didn't know about the -engine mount, wiring harness, ecu ,vtec wiring, shifter linkage, tranny and stuff like that to make it works, so that's the hard part about the car I am confused at...
-I wanted to put a b18 motor in there but I 'm running out of $$$ and so this d16z should be
o.k for now, it has a vtec so it should be fast enough....for me and my girlfriend and my newborn baby...

and my other questions:
plus do I keep the wire harness, and the ecu from the 93 civic and those fuel pumps and fuel lines, power steering stuff and engine hose,,and like u said the engine mount should fit right
so i don't have to buy new ones right and what else rywire will do all those wiring for me right.
all this talk is making me more confused, I should just do it.....
well thanks for reading and your help, if I get stuck somewhere I definitely will let u know....
probably will send pictures when I done with it...

i did pretty much the same swap. i put a d16z6 in my 90 civic hatch (yours and mine ar both ef's). The mounts and shift linkage and all that will work fine, with no problems. You will need the wiring harness and ecu from the 93 civic. Unless you want to do the wiring yourself, you will need to send the stock harness from the 89 hatch and the stock harness from the 93 civic to a company to do all the conversions (rywire.com). you will also need to make sure to get a 4wire 02 sensor (your 93 should have one) other than that its pretty much a drop in swap.

the d16z6 was my first swap and it wasnt hard at all . good luck and keep us updated.

yo man thanks for your advice, I could realize to do the swap if it wasn't for u guys, yeah sorry about that long story, anyways I finally got the motor out and wire harness and engine mounts,
just got to put the motor into the 89 civic know-

here are some of my other questions??
-so I got the motor out it's all greasy looking dirty, how do I clean it up, what chemical
do I used, and where can I get a pressure wash from I mean I want to
clean the 89 civic and the d16z engine want no dirt or grind on it...???
-so if I used the tranny from the 89 civic just used the 89 axle ?
-if I used the 93 civic tranny just used the 93 axle and shifter linkage?
- I don't have to switch any like fuel pumps etc from the 93 civic etc to the 89 civic do I?
-do I keep the power steering pumps from the 93? cause i want power steering
-could used the radiator from the 89 to used it on to the d16z? so I don't have to take that one from the 93...

the reason for this is I want to make sure cause I 'm going to dumb that 93 civic into the
junkyard (cause it's not my space) just borrowing a space from this guy to swap it, If it was my space I would just let it sit there.

thanks yo....

_use purple power to clean the motor..and a scrub brush..just dnt get the dizzy wet..
__use the axles from the tranny you use
fuel pumps are in-tank and are all basically the same bewteen hondas.you dont have to change it
-you can use the ps pump from the old motor im pretty sure
- you can use the rad from either car..doesnt matter

the o2 sensor screws into the manifold on the motor so just take the exhaust manifold with the d16z6

your car most likely came with manual steering..so if you want power steering,,you have to swap the rear crossmember and steering rack to a ps equipped one..
if i was you i wouldnt even deal with it..who needs ps anyways?

one more thing
-if I used the 89 tranny with that d16z engine, the vtec should kick in right yes or no? it's gonna be a while, just using that one for known until I get the d16z tranny fix or buy used...
-where is the wire for the vtec connect to?
-all those wiring should just clip on each other after Rywire conversions?
- the ecu should work just fine should just clip on to it after that ?
-should I used the 93 ecu?

yo man I think I 'm so ready to swap this thing into it, just need to send out my wire harness out
and wait for it to be return, other than that I 'm set
thanks for all your quys help, I could done without your guys help,
will be keep in touch.... later

oh yeah here's your answer, I pick, good and fast isn't cheap, I think I'm right on this....
so you have to spend more $$$$ to get the top performance.. that's sounds about right....

yeah i dont have poer steering either, its pointless. and like engine said, pretty much anything from your 93 will work in your 89, except wiring. i think it was forgotten to be mentioned that you will need to get an obd0 to obd1 jumper harness. Most of that info, though, can be found on rywire

Most any auto parts store should have it, or something equivalent. Places like Meijer or Wal-Mart should have it as well...
