Default 1992 dx swap

well im new to hondas. I mostly have a dsm and srt4 background. i have been looking around on here for swap info. I have a 92 civic dx with a d15b7 in it.

Im just looking for more power. I know the car is obd1. so i was looking at the b16a2. is that a direct swap, if i get the motor, ecu, trans, etc...

thanks a ton

Andrew

The B16A2 is an OBD2 engine. It's not a difficult swap; you either need to convert the engine to OBD1 or convert the car to OBD2 (converting the engine is probably the best option assuming you don't have to deal with inspections), but not quite a "drop it in, bolt it up, and plug it in" type of deal...

its a sedan. basically what im looking for is to buy a b16 for less then $2000 and swap it. is it possible for everything to plug right into each other, or do you have to hack your harness?

sorry about the wait on the pictures...it takes a little while to get to this stuff on fridays and saturdays (most of us go out those nights).

The b16a2 isn't just an obd2 engine, its obd1 as well. 1992-1995 civic si-r engines are b16a2 stamped, but they are also JDM engines, and are obd1. The usdm b16a2 (99-00 civic si), is obd2b.

Really? I thought all JDM engines only had 4 digit ID codes...

JDM B16A Gen1 (SiR I) JDM RACING MOTORS - JDM Engines, Transmissions and Accessories.
That motor is actually OBD0. The description says it's from an 88-91 Civic. You'd want to look for an SiR2 swap...

So is that a pretty rare thing, or are there lots more JDM engines with 5 digit ID codes?

I may be wrong here... B16a2 (92-95 si-r) is also the Canadian model, but may also be JDM as well.

Damn you and your sexy car, Chaz! It strikes again and I couldn't rep you for it! Damn the rep God's for now allowing multiple reppage!!!

By the way Vickin, I would suggest converting the engine to OBD1. The reason? It is MUCH easier to tune OBD1 than it is OBD2. That's just my own two cents from what I have learned. Check out Rywire - Online Store for any harnesses you may need. Also, search around the site and you will see how others have gone about doing their swaps.

You will need new motor mounts for sure. Best of luck on your swap.
