Default 96 civic hatch engine swap help

so i posted this in the wrong section but what would be the best motor to swap into a 96 civic hatch im gonna have about 2 grand to play around with, i was thinking the b16 would be key with simple bolt-on's or the b18b1 wouldnt be that bad either being as you can make ls/vtec out of it, if anyone has answers it would most appreciated

try b20b/z! both motors left stock pulls hard. also a great canidate for b20-vtec conversion. not a good canidate for turbo charge applications though!
