Do work
Can't find it anywhere, but I need the torque specs for the rocker assembly of the d16y8, I have a haynes manual for the z6 but I don't know if they'd be the same torque specs.

Bolts number 1-10 will be 14 ft/lbs, and 11-14 are 8.7 ft/lbs.

You aren't reusing your OEM headstuds, are you?

I actually planned on it for the next month, I've had this stupid thing sitting in my room in pieces and I decided fuck it its going together but I don't have the money for ARP studs right now because of some super huge bills that I have (fuck credit cards and cell phones,) and I've read in a lot of places people temp. using the oem head studs if you soak them in oil first

They're torque-to-yield bolts, when they're initially torqued they stretch. Soaking them in oil doesn't make them unstretch. There's no such thing as 'temporarily' using a used component such as head studs or a head gasket. That's like 'temporarily' driving with a blown-out tire, or 'temporarily' using a shredded timing belt.

that kinda sucks. I really, really am sick of looking at this thing lol

Ask yourself what's better...to band-aid your car only to have it break a week later and then spend even more money fixing the other things that broke, or to wait a few weeks, buy the right part in the first place, and have a car that runs right and isn't going to break.

You can't argue with that. Well thanks for your help with the torque specs and such, and a way off topic but how is your jetta? my buddy is looking at an 03 jetta 1.8 t but I don't know anything about vw's really except that stuff seems to be a tad more expensive for them. that's a turbo diesel correct?

Ahh...the jetta...you don't want to get me started on German engineering...lol

The 1.8T is a gasoline engine, I'm not sure of the displacement on the diesel but the diesels are badged 'TDI'.

Mine is an 02 and it has right at 65K on it (had 59k when I bought it). It's actually a great car when shit isn't breaking, it gets 30mpg regularly and is a comfortable, smooth-riding car. When shit breaks on them it's either really expensive to fix, or a humongous pain in the ass to fix. You have to pull the entire front clip off of the car to get to anything, even the thermostat. One big problem the jettas have is that from the factory the water pumps have plastic impellors, so over time of heating up and cooling down and heating up and cooling down the impellor says 'hey, guess what, I'm goin to disentigrate!'. Mine started overheating about 3 weeks ago (about 2 months after I bought it), and the first thing I noticed was one of the cooling fans wasn't working. I tested the fan motor, found it to be bad, and replaced it (which meant I had to pull the front of the car apart). The car still overheated. I checked the flow coming from the coolant hose, and it flowed ok at idle but off-idle it didn't flow any more than it did at idle. I pulled the front of the car apart AGAIN and removed the timing belt and water pump. Not surprisingly, the impellor was in about 8 little pieces. I went to the dealership and bought a new water pump, timing belt, and thermostat and replaced them which took me about 4 hours of labor (keep in mind that I'm a technician who usually flags 10-15 hours in a 7 hour work day). Got everything back together and the A/C wasn't cooling, and upon further inspection I found that the OTHER cooling fan wasn't kicking on, and the one fan that was working was only coming on low-speed. Both the condensor fan AND the fan control module were inoperable, so I pulled the front of the car off a third time and replaced both the fan control module and the condensor fan. After all that, everything in the cooling/ac system works great. A few days later I noticed a slight misfire when the engine was cold. Since VW's are notorious for having ignition coils take a shit, I replaced all 4 coils and spark plugs. It still occasionally misfires on cold start, but I'm just going to deal with it for the time being. The only other gripe I have is that when it's cold it has a rough 1-2 shift, which I'm pretty sure is caused by a seal in the transmission leaking a bit (since I can duplicate the problem under full-throttle), and I've been meaning to put some conditioner in the tranny to swell the seals but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

But, all in all, I'm very happy with it...however, I don't ever plan on buying another VW unless it has an extended factory warranty.

wow, sounds like it's a lot of fun lol. vw never made a non-diesel, turbo for the jetta at least, did they? My buddy is under the impression that it's boosted but now that you mentioned the TDI emblem I remember that being the turbo-diesel model, but I didn't think they made a non-diesel turbo, being what he thinks the 1.8T is

your buddy is wrong. Yes, VW made a non-diesel turbo Jetta - the 1.8T. I own one. The 1.8T is NOT diesel - the TDI is diesel.

The 1.8T has a 1.8-liter turbocharged gasoline engine, the TDI has a 1.9L turbocharged diesel engine.

Alright, I wasn't sure if it came stock turbo or not, he called me up about it last night and then when you mentioned TDI I was like wait a sec..but if they do infact make a turbo non-diesel, then that's what he's looking at. I'm very very unfamiliar with VW's, I can tell you that some are diesel's and that gti's have vr6's because my dad has one lol
