Default whats a better bottom end z6 y7 y8?

My buddy is rockin a 94 civic coupe he put a rod through the block and wants to put another single cam in it WHY is beyond me. But anyway the d16z6 block that was in it was a beast (FOR A SINGLE CAM) but if im gonna help him build a faster one i wanna know what the best block would be for it

I actualy disagree the z6 comes with a 9.2:1 compression while the y8 comes with a 9.6:1. The y8 makes 2 extra hp and tq because of the extra compression. Now considering that you are talking about a z6 block to begin with, I would stick with that. You have extra things to worry about with the y8 like a knock sensor. Also changing over to the y8 would require converting to obd2, unless your planing on chipping the ecu to run the correct maps for the y8.

he asking about blocks not heads, and the y8 block is known to go because of its poor ability to oil right

No where did i mention about heads, and the y8 doesn't have poor oil ability, It does however have slightly longer rods for increased stroke, so the length the oil has to travel through the spert holes in the rods is longer. If thats what your referring to about poor oil ability. This speculation that the z6 oils better then the y8 has been going on for years. However there is no difference between the two. Honestly I would think is would be harder for the z6 to oil primary on start up because the oil pan is deeper.

compression is made from the head type and pistons, there both a 1.6 so the stroke is pert much dead on. the y series does have a oil problem ive saw lots of y8 with my own eyes fail because of this.

I have a Y7 in my back yard with a rod knock so bad it sounds like a diesel motor.

the y7/y8 motors are known to have oil pump issues. I'd go for the z6

Hey guys. I've got a 98 Civic EX with the d16y8 and its locked up. I want to just swap the block over and/or put a good crank in with some eagle rods and some forged pistons for turbo-charging the beast. From what i've seen all the blocks from 92 to '00 will work(i'm assuming providing the are vtec)
Do they have to be Vtec blocks to bolt my y8 head back onto it? correct me please and lead me in the right direction. I want to get her running soon. I'm guessing you will say Z6 block right. What model civic did they come in?
I have considered swapping to a b16a but I think it would be cheaper to turbo what i have and not have to do all the swap work.
Thanks for any good input
