I installed Fedora Core 3 last night and have some problems/questions...
1 - I am having trouble getting my dual monitor setup to work. I have two 17" samsung 712N LCD screens, an onboard video card on my motherboard, nvidia nforce2, and an nvidia gforce4 card. it is an abit nf-7m motherboard. 2 - i am having trouble mounting the rest of the hard drives... su - cd /dev ls (lists everything, shows hda/1/2/3/5 and hdb/1/2/3 (what fc3 is on) and hdc i've tried to do this for all of them: mkdir /mnt/windows mount -t /dev/hda1 /mnt/windows to no avail any ideas?? |

Type "more /proc/pci". That will give you a list of all your PCI/AGP cards, including your video cards. There should be an identifier of it's bus and card number. For example: Bus 0, device 18, function 0: Ethernet controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT6102 [Rhine-II] (rev 116). IRQ 11. Master Capable. Latency=32. Min Gnt=3.Max Lat=8. I/O at 0xd800 [0xd8ff]. Non-prefetchable 32 bit memory at 0xdfffde00 [0xdfffdeff]. Bus 1, device 0, function 0: VGA compatible controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT8378 [S3 UniChrome] Inte grated Video (rev 1). IRQ 11. Master Capable. Latency=32. Min Gnt=2. Prefetchable 32 bit memory at 0xd8000000 [0xdbffffff]. Non-prefetchable 32 bit memory at 0xde000000 [0xdeffffff]. Bus 1 is always AGP. Now, get the bus and device for both your cards. Your AGP card should be 1:0:0 and your secondary card (should be PCI) should be something like 0:10:0. Remember those numbers. Go and edit your /etc/X11/xorg.conf. What you will do is duplicate your settings for video card, monitor and screen. These look like this: Section "Monitor" Identifier "My Monitor" HorizSync 31.5 - 48.5 VertRefresh 40-150 EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "Unichrome" Driver "via" #VideoRam 32768 Option "DisableIRQ" # Insert Clocks lines here if appropriate EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "Screen 1" Device "Unichrome" Monitor "My Monitor" DefaultDepth 24 Subsection "Display" Depth 24 Modes "1024x768" ViewPort 0 0 EndSubsection EndSection Those are the definers under your conf file. Now, duplicate those for your 2nd monitor, video card and make a screen for it. However, you must add in your BusID for your cards (remember those numbers?) So add under the Device section for your video card an option for bus ID BusID "PCI:0:10:0" replace the 0:10:0 with your card's bus and device numbers. Both of them. *Be sure to give each section it's own identifier, like "Screen 1" and "Screen 2" Now, add in an option line under your Option: ServerLayout that says Option "Xinerama" "true" That will turn on Xinerama. From there, go to your serverlayout section that says Screen "Screen 1" Change it to something like this: Screen "Screen 1" LeftOf "Screen 2" Where Screen 1 is your first card/monitor/screen and Screen 2 is the second. That will put 1 to the left of 2, so 2 is on the right. If all goes well, you should have dual monitor support. * I know that is probably really hard to follow, just look up xinerama and dual head under google and you should find some easier howtos. If it requires a filesystem type, choose umsdos or vfat. Hope this helps. ![]() __________________

Are you sure that you can run dual monitor with the nForce on-board video?

IRQ 19? IRQs only go up to 15. ![]() I haven't seen a bus 2 or seen multiple cards on bus 1. However try using the settings Windows uses, sans the IRQs. You will not need to specify IRQs under your config file. The BusID will take care of it all. 2:0:0 would be bus 2, device 0, function 0. It'll handle the rest. __________________

this is what I have:
under serverlayout do i need Option "clone" "on" or "true" or any of that? Code:

That looks good. You don't need to add the clone option, because that does what it says... clones a display.
As for your list, that isn't what I am used to. Doesn't show any of the device names. The list I am used to goes like this: Bus 0, device 17, function 5: Multimedia audio controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT8233/A/8235/8237 AC97 Audio Controller (rev 80). IRQ 10. I/O at 0xdc00 [0xdcff]. Bus 0, device 17, function 6: Communication controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. Intel 537 [AC97 Modem] (rev 128). IRQ 10. I/O at 0xe000 [0xe0ff]. Bus 0, device 18, function 0: Ethernet controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT6102 [Rhine-II] (rev 116). IRQ 11. Master Capable. Latency=32. Min Gnt=3.Max Lat=8. I/O at 0xd800 [0xd8ff]. Non-prefetchable 32 bit memory at 0xdfffde00 [0xdfffdeff]. Bus 1, device 0, function 0: VGA compatible controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT8378 [S3 UniChrome] Inte grated Video (rev 1). IRQ 11. Master Capable. Latency=32. Min Gnt=2. Prefetchable 32 bit memory at 0xd8000000 [0xdbffffff]. Non-prefetchable 32 bit memory at 0xde000000 [0xdeffffff]. Have you tried your new config yet? __________________

yea, no luck yet... i'm thinking it is because i am using the generic drivers. i downloaded the actual driver for my video cards and am in the process of installing them. i need to get my CD's back from my friend in order to install some things due to a shit ton of failed dependencies... but i'll be back at it again tonight
