From previous experience, yes. I killed my roommates computer once because I used my flash drive, gig stick, whatever you would like to call it, to store some pictures, music and what have you from my brother's computer. Unbeknownst to me he had a lovely virus and hers got infected too. It's kind of like herpes...get it once and it'll follow you wherever you go.

I still say the HP.

Oh man, it will never be the "last" computer you ever buy. It's already obsolete before it gets to you because they're always making bigger, better and faster systems. The specs looked really good to me, though I wonder what the upgrade ability is on the RAM. My HP notebook has 2 gig's and is not upgradeable anymore. That's a detail I missed when I bought it. Still, it works.

Do you do a lot of gaming? I should ask, what is going to be your primary use for your computer?

Its rare, but definitely possible. I would enable "show hidden folders" and see what youre moving into the flash drive. That why you can see if anything is piggy backing on a good folder. Once you plug the flash drive in the new computer, dont move anything yet. Right click it on my computer and run a virus scanner. That why you can be sure nothing is moving into the computer you dont want.

just make sure you have good resident virus protection and the computer will monitor any files moving to and/or from it.
