Default ipod troubles

I bought an ipod yesterday. Its a 2nd gen Shuffle, just something to get me by at work. I get home, install plug my Ipod in, and it trys installing but cant find any drivers obviously cause it doesnt come with anything. I install Itunes gets all my music in the library, but it doesnt pick up my ipod. Look online, went through all apples bs support ideas trying to figure out why this wont recognize. I've tried all my USB ports, and windows recognizes it but Itunes doesnt. The 1 time it does recognize it, it says it needs to be reset, so it starts resetting it and it freezes up. Now it wont recognize it again. I installed Itunes on my work laptop, and it picks up the ipod just fine. can put music on it and everything. but since its my work laptop I cant have Itunes installed on there so I was pretty much just testing it out, and of course it works. I have vista installed on my home PC but i can put it into my roommates pc and it recognizes it. He has vista as well so I know its not that. I really dont know what else I can do.. Any ideas will help..

I'd suggest deleting all itunes and itunes affiliated stuff. Re-install that stuff. Make sure your ipod isn't an added device, and plug it in then with itunes already open.

I had this same problem with an ipod touch and my old nano, but after re-installing itunes it worked fine, but I had to delete all the other files that come with it and the crap out of the registry.

Tried all that, had no effect. Does the same thing. It seems like its Windows not installing it correctly, because it cant find anything, but when I use my work laptop, you plug it in, and it pops right up just like a flash drive would.. Thanks for the help though. I'm still trying to figure out wtf is wrong with this damn thing....
