and id rather it not break at all.. i dont want to have to wait a fucking month to get another one..
and i am well aware that there is a 3 year warranty, but it only covers the red ring.
everything else only has a 1 year warranty.
so you better hope you dont get an error message if yours fucks up..

You're more then welcome to do anything you want with your 360, if you have HDMI then you should have hopefully the ver that came out right after the elite when they started putting HDMI in the white systems, if so, I think you should be good to go.

Besides, if your 360 dies and has to be sent in, just go to walmart and rent one. That's what I did... 4 times....

P.S I wasn't going to say this to the OP since it's after the fact but I for one would NEVER EVER EVER buy a used 360 unless it was still within warranty. all 4 of my first 360s died within 6 months. even my ex girlfriend had her 360 die the 2nd night lol. its funny just how sad the quality of them is. or at least was, the new updated ones and the fixed within the last year ones seem to be running strong.

As to my problem, 3 of them would just lock up, you couldn't do anything other then pull the power plug, it wouldn't give an error or a RROD, it would just freeze, the last one that died would spin up the disc and sound like it was just grinding gears or something. it was weird. I guess one of the gears inside came out of place?

Fuck renting the 360. I'm about to just go buy one brand new. Even if it's the arcade, at least I'll have an existing warranty to work with, and a spare one (when the used one gets exchanged and returned) to mod in the future.

Does anyone know where you can buy the core system still?

and you can buy a core system from just about any electronics store.
i got mine at circuit city for 199.
i went to oregon to buy it, so no tax.

i already had the harddrive and everything.. otherwise i wouldve just bought an elite.

If you can't come up with 199.99 temp charge for a core system then you really shouldn't be putting money into games. Even more so when they're now 60 bucks a pop =(

i dont have a credit card..
i usually buy games used, and if i spent 2 bills on another system, thats like 5 to 7 games i couldve bought.
basically, i dont want it to fail. lol

ok this is what u do call 1-800-4my-xbox and ask them if they can anything for you and they will send u a box and u keep ur hard drive and everything else only the console goes in the box. tell them what happend and im almost positive they will help u.

I ran a fan on my 360 all of the time, elevated my power strip made sure it was clean etc. and I still had it Red Ring..... Twice. It really is luck of the draw. Shitty part is that the 360 they sent me back only had the three month warranty on it

I plan on buying an arcade with an extended warranty on it from Best Buy. Hope you get your box back soon man!

I bought my Xbox very early on (ver. 1.1) no special care, no special treatment. Gets thrown around in a duffel bag (or even by its self) where ever I go. My roommates will forget and leave it on for hours. I've set it on the top and the side, on carpet in tight places, and in wide open hard surfaces on top of my tv. It gets knocked over and banged up, and I've never put any kind of fan on it. Still on my first one. IMO, Its all luck of the draw.

If I was on my 2nd xbox I might believe it but again, on my 5th so I know just how chitty their product is.

i didnt spend any money on the fan.
i made it myself using spare computer parts and a 9v dc plug.

Welp, just got home from Sam's Club a few hours ago, got me a Elite, said fuck it i guess. lol. Too bad I wont be able to use my saves on the new one, but having warranty feels so much better.

yeah you can..
just put the harddrive on it.
or if you wanna transfer the saves to the bigger harddrive, you can take the face plate off and plug one of the harddrives in the front where the memory card goes and just copy or move everything to the other one.
