You can reset the computer to the factory settings by pressing F10 button on your keyboard as soon as you power on the computer before the start of Operating System. If there is no recovery drive configured on the computer, then you will have to use recovery disk provided with the computer.

Boot the computer using the recovery disk and follow the instruction to install OS.

But remember, resetting the computer to factory settings would delete all your personal data from the hard disk. Make sure you backup any information you need to keep.

That will get you back to the original factory set up, unfortunately it will include all of the bloat that it came preloaded with. But without a clean install, its all you've got.

I second the motion to do a restore on the thing. Back up any of the skin flicks you have already downloaded and go from their.

I believe that homosexual activities are more likely to lead to the transmission of social diseases. You did say 38 right?????????

how old is the computer?
does it have windows XP or Vista?

if it's XP you will probably have to order the restore media from HP. XP machines very RARELY have a restore partition (gateway is really the only company ive seen an XP machine with a built in partition on)

if it's Vista, you will most likely be able to restore by pressing F11 on startup (press it rapidly as soon as you turn on the computer, sometimes you have to really ninja it to get it, depending on how fast the machine POSTs). then follow the instructions. when it asks if you want to do Microsoft System restore, select NO, then when it asks if you want to do a System Recovery (setting back to factory settings), select YES.

in either case, if the OS has been restored ever previously using retail media, you will have to order the discs. or if the HDD and/or MB were ever replaced you may have issues with a motherboard tattoo, or hard drive DMI.

i would also probably recommend running some hardware diags on the computer to check for hardware issues before you up and restore it. if you restore on bad hardware, its just going to give you more problems in the future.

I think you can recover it that way. Can you read from any disc? If so, you would be able to download it from another computer to a usb or cd and drag it to your desktop. Wiping it out with a new install of xp would probably be the best way to go.

Just copy off all their personal documents, save for porn. Make sure you wipe the install, and don't do a repair.

Install XP, then install some antivirus, and set it up to update every single day. Install some antispyware app, and have it update and run every day. Install FireFox, and set it as the default browser, then delete the Internet Explorer icons from the start menu and quicklaunch bar.

Update the antivirus, then scan all their documents. Copy the uninfected ones back. Enjoy.

So just do the first step that awptickes suggest. Wipe everything and do install. If you can do the F10 system recovery, than do that.
