Default Small phone upgrade :-)

Sammy M520. Decent little phone.

My old Katana II bit it... earpiece stopped working. Just in time for that $75 upgrade deal damn near to the day. Amazing how things work like that.

My main upgrade was unlimited internet access AND unlimited phone-as-modem tethering. Worth every last cent. The internet can't hide from me anymore I didn't care about any other feature besides that. I can hold a solid 35-50K/sec transfer speed anywhere.

Next up, carputer. Wouldn't mind having a Myth frontend in the car...

I looked at some smartphones, Mogul included. Too damn expensive! I am not paying 500 bucks for a phone (I was already in contract). The Sammy I got does one thing above all else... gives me seemless, unlimited internet access coast-to-coast.

That's worth every penny of that 40 bucks.

I've been wanting that for the longest time... screw trying to find some open AP to connect to when you're not at home, and yeah there's gonna be a pc in the car. Soma FM on the road? Yes, please

The phone itself? It's a phone. Makes phone calls. Does what a phone does, nothing more.

I would have loved something like that... one of the reasons I looked at the Mogul is the QWERTY keyboard and (shudder) Windows Mobile so I can use things like SSH, FTP, possibly CIFS). But I can VPN all that to a PC so no sweat there.

It's slower than balls, but it's not complete 'fucking crap'... It does everything any Windows Mobile 6 device can do, which is more than blackberry...

What's your reasoning, I'm curious.

the reasoning is i had to change most of my exchange infrastructure at work to get ONE PHONE to work, plus cost of an SSL certificate and such.

didnt have trouble getting a few iPhones using exchange activesync though.

Hmm no idea. I've done labs with WM5 and Exchange Server 2003 and it worked well, even across the internet. But right on.

my blackberry does everything though. camera, pics, plays video and mp3s. receives email. i can browse the web and play java games. its got mega internal storage too, plus its an amazing tool when coupled with a BES. i never have to reset it and never gets any viruses!

and its quick as fuck.

lol nice try but you know you can do more on a WM device. It's not even worth my argument...

I just picked up an HTC through Verizon. Mines kinda slow, but not enough to be annoying. Does your battery life suck?

i have a high powered mobile laptop why would i need my phone to do those things? i'll leave my phone to do little things when i cant get to my laptop. works great.

i can read pdfs, pretty much any office document, and text files. what else could i possibly need?

battery life is about 2-3 days if i use mostly data, if im using the voice its a few hours. but the phone is charging on the desk at my office most of the day so its no issue.

Ya mine does all that too, WM6 with mobile office and google maps. Can view most any webpages. Windows live syncs all my contancts and emails from hotmail too.

My battery only lasts about a day and a half though.

Day and a half battery for mine too. But honestly, I've never had even a normal cell phone that has a battery that lasts longer than 2 days.

I use the IR to interface to my battery powered thermal printer to print receipts on the go. And invoice tab. And remote desktop, and all the things cheese9988 has said. It has wayy more capabilities, if your into hacking devices, you can have some fun...
