I like winamp for music. Or windows media player 10. Winamp has better randomization and playlist/library options IMO. And winamp has better sound quality and options. For downloaded movies and video, Windows Media Player Classic is great. Used to come with kazaa. Plays just about any codec you throw at it.

winamp is still a stand-by for music. for video, windows media player with cccp codec pack will play anything you throw it minus .flv files and some odd ones. if that fails, VLC will play it. If not, then the file is corrupted. for dvd, only cyberlink for me.

Winamp for music.

K-Lite's codec pack for everything else, including flv files. K-Lite comes with an "upgraded" version of Media Player Classic that has quite a few nice features in it.

I'm using K-Lite's MPC. Works great and haven't had any codec issues(at least nothing major like having to download more codecs, etc.)

For music, I use iTunes and Winamp.

This is why I use VLC. I mean really if all you are going to do is watch a movie why do you need some huge ass program with 1000 other features?

With VLC I had issues with movies in wide-fullscreen and subtitles(dual monitor). With MPC(K-lite version) with ffdshow, I can configure it how I want and works very, very well. Not to mention it plays everything VLC plays too(at least from my experience).
