Default Windows Vista

Is a piece of shit.

XP was fine, maybe a tad slow on 512 ram. Wtfever. Vista is constantly doin someindexing bullshit and stuff. "Oh it will work fine on 512 ram" best buy tells their customers. Then their customers call me and waste an hour of my goddamn time with "I've got a virus my computer is slow" NO! You have a shitty puter. thanks.

Vista is the greatest OS ever developed.

You remember when XP came out ,and people were taking to the streets ? Same thing. It happens all the time.

Nothing to see here, move along.

features drive technology and performance limits. If software people thought "We should make this run on more devices" then we would all be scroll-texting through a CLI on dumb terminals connected to a DEC VAX .

without bloated software, we would be in the stone age.

*Agree* but too much too soon. Vista has some happy features but not enough people have good enough hardware for it. I don't mind some of the ideas within vista but the crappy implementation is.....crappy.
I laughed about your lil dumb terminal thing funny stuff.

oh mac user.

Any operating system requiring a gig of ram for its base utilization is seriously flawed, end of discussion.

The nice thing about Vista is that it's featured for specific applications.

If you're going to push top-end creativity, then pick the retail market to do so. You're likely the target of the MS to push their ideas. If you're in business, vista offers a high reliability flavor devoid of the options that clog up machines. Students, teachers, the poor and stupid, the rich and endowed - All are targetted for specific features.

Except Sabz. No "Vista Egocentric" version yet. But I hear it will actually reindex all of your files to surround your baby picture. It'll be sweet.

No tinfoil hat edition either, sorry

However I do question the quality of your crack-cocaine when you state that Vista is the best OS ever made, although I am unsure whether this means it's bad crack or GOOD crack... could go either way.

thats why i laughed because there is no reason. vista has in its head that cross-referancing every typed
letter against its giant index is a good idea.

personally i really like vista. i like that it runs explorer processes in seperate system threads as opposed to all in one, where you needed to activate that feature in previous versions. i hardly EVER see system crashes, and when i do 95% of the time it is my fault, tinkering and doing things i shouldnt.

vista will run on 512mb of ram, but turn all the bells and whistles off. i dont even recommend running aero on 1GB of ram. it can, but the vector rendering kills the speed.

the flavors of vista, as steve said, cater to specific audiences. you have the noobs with home and home basic, people like me who dont need the media center options or those associated programs run business, and the guy who needs everything can buy ultimate. up to you.

I toyed with Vista for a bit... it pissed me off about fifteen minutes into tinkering. The OS gets in the way far too much. I don't need the system to handhold me through every (Hondaswap has requested a data transfer. Allow/Deny) goddamn (Are you sure you want to delete these files?) thing.

Also Cel... say what you want about the CLI, but it an extremely powerful tool.

I'm still trying to justify getting XP. Except for my Zune I can do everything in win2k with with some free utils that I can with XP and Vista. Win2k needs half the memory XP does.

Desktop comp, Win2k
Laptop, Linux Mint
