alright guys, here goes. I bought a wireless router and wireless PCI card. Both are Linksys BTW. I put the card in my sisters computer and i try and setup the router in my room. i try to install the 'software" or what ever the hell you call it, from the disc they gave me with the router. when i try to istall it says that my computer isn't connected to the internet?!! WTF! i'm sitting here on HondaSwap the whole time. anyone have an idea of what is wrong? i have some settings wrong??
any help is welcome but please use plain english because i am next to being computer illiterate. thanks

EDIT:Realized there is a new forum for this stuff. can a mod or admin move if nessasary (SP?)

naw, al gore, steve's dad invented it. I just made it more useful :P

as for your setup- here's what to do.

wall -> cable -> cable box -> router -> computers
or phone crap if you're using dsl... but thats the order you need to hook it up with.

use XP's network setup tool (my network places -> create a new home network) or some shit like that. follow the steps.

using Ie (firefox sucks for this, i have to admit)
go to http://192.168.100.1
your router may be different by default. the directions will say the IP. some times its http://192.168.1.1

default userpass is BLANK user and "admin" for the password, get in there and configure you're router.

On the linksys wireless routers the router config IP is 192.168.1.1

You better lock that bad boy down. Doesn't take much to own one of those things. I don't mean WEP either, filter by MAC address. Cloak it if you want also.

I highly doubt this guy will see any trouble. If it were my wireless, I'd lock it down like a sumbitch though.
