What is involved with putting a b16 motor into my 1996 honda civic ex? Do I need a motor mount kit? What else do I need?

you need a bunch of stuff man... i dont no what you got with your motor but if you just got motor and trans you need an ecu axles mount kit probly shift linkage it just all depends on what you got when you got your motor..

You're going to need the transmission, ECU, an alternator out of a 96+ integra, a 99si rear motor mount and the old fuel injectors that are in your D motor need to be placed in your new B motor. You are also going to need a conversion harness for your new ECU to plug into your existing wiring harness unless your motor came with an OBD II ECU. If that is the case then you will either have to do some modifications to your existing wiring harness or you can try to find a wiring harness that plugs into an OBDII ECU and an OBD I B16A SiRII assuming you ordered a JDM motor. I am also in the process of doing the same swap so if you have yours in let me know... I may need some info on wiring, if not feel free to post again and I can help you with any other questions you may have.

Save yourself the headache get a b16a2. Mounts from an integra should do the trick also b series shift linkage and the ecu axels and midshaft

That's a great idea and everything but getting the a2 will probably be harder than finding it's japanese brother (from what I've seen). Not to mention that they will probably run the same price and the SiR II comes with 10 more horses and 6 more ft-lbs of torque (and probably less miles... the japanese have very strict emissions regulations). The choice is yours but you'll definitely gain more bragging rights with a B16A SiR II and a little power for the same price. Anyone can buy an Si with a B16A2-3 in it but it takes a real tuner to do the entire JDM SiR swap.
