Ok here's the deal..............I bought a complete swap B16A2, tranny, and P30 ECU. Only thing is that the guy i bought the engine from couldn't tell me what year Civic it came out of. All i know is that the Civic was a VTI (Euro Spec 1992-2000 Honda Civic) EDM VTi (EK). I'm trying to figure out how to tell if the ECU is either OBD1 or OBD2. Is there any physical way i can figure this out? Please if someone can help let me know i would like to start getting some stuff for the rebuild. Thanks!!!!

the thing that gots me confused is that in EDM Civics the B16A2 was used in the following years 92-00'. I'm pretty sure if it's before 95' it would be OBD1 but after 95' will be OBD2. So the questions is which one is it? Are the codes on the P30 label both the same for OBD1 & OBD2? I'm thinking the only way to tell is by the codes at this point???

take a pic of where the plugs go and post it up. .

here's the pics. in one you can see it's stamped showing 92' but not sure if thats that year of the ecu? can you guys tell by the plug inputs?

does anyone here have a P30 both obd-1 and OBD2 so i can see the difference?

cool, but how can you tell? it came out of a EDM car do they use the same ECU's , meaning EDM's use JDM's ECU's?

which ever one it is.. i just saw the stamp that said 92 and i know there was a b16 in a USDM car until 94 i believe

I have an obd1 b16a2 (j-spec)...if it is a b16a2 with a p30 it could quite possibly be either.

that's the problem i don't know which one it is? aren't the plug inputs different from OBD1 vs. OBD2?

i really don't want to go off a stamp on the ECU. i need real proof so i can go ahead and buy a conversion harness or not.

and the engine is a B16A2 which i believe can be either or OBD versions. B16A is only OBD1 for sure.

from what i know a B16A2 can be either or since they range in so many year in the EDM side. This is what i need to know so i do go out and buy a conversion harness for nothing.

a B16A motor is OBD1 for sure

also i just don't want to go off a stamp. shouldn't someone be able to tell just by looking at the plug inputs? since the harnesses are different?
