Does anyone know how to reset an ABS ECU?

I tried disconnecting my battery for about two minutes, no luck. I broke a sensor while replacing a rotor. I replaced it, and the light hasn't gone out since. Is this a Honda dealer only thing?

Car in sig.

When u tried re-setting did you:
1)Have key on "on" position
2)Take one battery terminal off
3)Wait 30sec-1min
4)Re-connect
5)Turn key on "off" position
6)Start car to see if code cleared

I think so, but I'll try it again tomorrow, thank you.

I also am going to remove my battery backup for my alarm, which is why I turned my key on. I wanted to make sure it wasn't leaking any power over from the alarm backup to the ECU.

I totally disconnected the ABS ECU for 24 hours. I plugged it back in and I still have the light in my dash.

I know which sensor I broke, since I hit it with a hammer. I replaced that sensor and can't get the code to clear. This is pissing me off.

yea tab it is a dealer only thing they have the scanner to reset it. it is a pain but thats life

only other thing to try is dis connect battery then put the 2 cables togher for about a minute theat will sometimes clear the system completly. if that does not work take it to honda

100 post yea

first of all what model honda are u driving????

the abs ecu use a nonerasable type of memory u can disconect it for 5 years and it wont forget the code

assuming youre driving an 96 - 00 model heres the procedure

1.locate your cars ecu (the main ecu that cntrols the engine, usually on the pasenger side ) ,ON TOP OF THE ECU YOU SHULD FIND A BROWN AND BLACK FEMALE CONNECTOR JUST LYING THERE,usually it is covered with a green cap..This is your diagnostic port.

2.Next ,take a short piece of wire and bridge this female connector,ie.the brown wire must connect to the black vice versa..

3.turn on your ignition , dont start the car,,now youre abs light on the dash should start playing morse code, these codes explainn what the precise problem is eg.1long flash 1 quick flash = disconected or failed fr wheel speed sensor.

4. to reset the abs ecu turn ignition off ,STEP 2 depress brake pedal, turn ignition on STEP 3,the abs light will go off after about 2 seconds. STEP 4 .after the light goes off release the pedal, the light will then come on after about 4 seconds. STEP 5 when the light comes on press the pedal again STEP.6 the light will go off again, the relase pedal.

the light will now blink a number of times to confirm the code has been erased

SOUNDS COMPLEX BUT THE PRESSING AND RELASING BECOMES INTUITIVE AFTER THE SECOND TRY

This will work asuming u drive a similair model to mine, let me know how it goes

ahum...check the sig. 92 Accord EX.

Im there with ya bro. But my ABS light resets all on its own every time i drive the car. It doesnt click until the i hit 3000 RPMs.

prolly the same...thats about 3000 in 1st isnt it?

We have said twice, look in his signature, it says right there what car/engine.

Problem still there. I tried the brake/no brake/brake/no brake thing. It didn't work for me. I'll probably have to take it to honda.

I can make the light go out by disconnecting the ABS ECU main plugs, but it won't fix the problem. I replaced the sensor I broke. The problem is clearing that memory, and letting my ABS work properly again.

Mine is civic 99, ecu is not detecting ABS. Plz suggest

Not sure how to reset it, but this thread hasn't had a reply in it in over 10 years.
