8.5-1 YCP pistons for D series

I posted this question not to long ago in another thread and was told that they were crap. Ive done some research on other sites since then and have found people that have run these pistons with no problems and not to mention one cat making around 300hp on them.What I would like to know is if anyone has had problems with them or knows someone that has. I think brian told me that they were to low of a compression. Is this fact or are they a good choice for my applacation ( 240-270 horses)? Any info is always appreciated. PS Im told they are also known as Vitara 8.5-1 pistons.

vitara pisonts have been putting down some good numbers with tuner toys rods. these are if your on a tight budget. otherwise go with a forged piston. but there are 300hp dseries with these vitras. the first thing to do is buy the 20 over and have the block bored to have the right piston to wall cleaance b/c the vitars are alittle to smalll stock bore and you could have piston slap.

got the standard bore already with eagle H beams. I was concerned about piston slap but after checking the cylinders they were all in good shape. So all I did was ridge-ream and just enough honing to help break in of rings. A friend of mine at richmond tech (engine building teacher) says with the little bit that Ive taking out that piston slap really shouldn't be a concern. Well......as long as the piston is true to its measurment. thanx for the info

I hope i can answer your questions since i have used and i also sell these pistons. Even though here these pistons have been used for years (5+yrs) i belive it is a new thing to the USA guys. I introduced this idea of using these pistons and was somewhat critisized but now the opinions are different since ppl have started to see how well these pistons work.

YCP is a company that do replacement pistons for different cars.. The pistons you are refering to as being 8.5:1 CR are Vitara pistons(made by Y.C.P).. these pistons will fit into D series Honda motors and will provide great performance for boosted applications at a fraction of the cost of forged nes.

The have produced reliably up to 416whp on d16 boosted setups and they respons great to boost. Check out JFK78 and fast2camciv setups in Honda-tech or at turbod16.com or at d-series.org. Both setups have 400+whp on these pistons..

In my particular car i achieved 266whp and 240lbs/ft on 93octane with a elatively small turbo(T3 super 60) with a Non vtec D16y7 setup. I ran 12.4 @ 111mph with full interior,full exhaust and 93octane in the tank..I ran my car daily at 18PSIs w/o any problem.

What makes these pistons special? They are made of a much more stronger cast than regular OEM pistons, they are T-6 heat treated which helps them in being strong, they have a special coating that helps fight against heat, friction and detonation..They also have better ringlanda than OEM pistons and double oil holes for a better lubrication.. And the best is that these pistons have a Floating wrist pin design which makes them easy to install on aftermarket rods such as Eagle, TT, SCAT etc...

The compression rati varies depending on what head combination you use and what head gasket thickness.

In my setup i used the pistons with eagle rods.

lol.. sorry i was just browsing around and this topic came up..when i posted i didnt looked at the date..

About the CR.. They dont feel as doggish as a lot of ppl think.. By the Way i ran these pistons N/A for break in and at the track i pulled a better time with the lower CR Vitaras than with the highr CR OEM D16y7 pistons..

Just for comparisson, the subaru wrx comes with an 8.5:1 compression ratio.
