Im asking this for a friend. He wanted to know if you could put a D16Y8 head on a D16Y7 block without having to tap the block for vtec? Also he wanted to know what kind of problems he was goin to run into put the motor in a 89 h/b?

You only have to tap B series blocks on VTEC head conversions. Just make sure there's no oil jet left in the block between cylinders 2 and 3, then bolt everything up and it's all wiring from there on out.
Putting that engine combination into an 89 HB should be the same as installing a D16Y8. By the way, wrong forum. __________________
