| hey guys, ive been a looooong time spectator, but finally deciding to get my hands dirty. well heres my scenario, i have a 2000GSR with 96k miles that has been my winter car, and honestly Ive loved it. but last month my sister needed to borrow it for a few weeks and somehow the car mannaged to loose all compresion on cylinder 4 (heck of a coincidence, lmao) anyways... riped the head off and found that i had a whole burned right into an exhaust valve (piston and cylinder wall are intact) but the valve seat does have a lil uneven area where the whole on the valve sat (i think it might be carbon gunk due to it being above the rest of the seat). soo, now im looking at new valve, local machine shop sais i need a valve job @ $350, that plus having the deck cleaned, ultrasonic wash, compression check, and magnaflux im going for $535 plus $100 if the guide is bent, that just seems kinda expensive for ONE valve, so as long as their doing the valve job anyways im looking to replace the valves and then plus alll the lil add ons in looking at a 1,000 ballpark already (fresh used type R head territory, found a new one on ebay for 1,600) so what do you guys think on a winter car that really does have to iddle and needs to be reliable while also being fun? 1) gsr with machine work 2) used type R also if i do go with just working on this one any good machine shops that you guys would recomend in CT or NY/NJ. any help is apresiated in advance. |
