when i installed my head on my lsvtec motor,(95 block,99 b16 head) i blew my head gasket in about 10 minutes. when i pulled the hesd back off, i noticed that the 2 copper rings toward the back of the motor (by the #4 cylinder), were crushed. On my new gasket, I removed those 2 rings, and when i got everything back together, my enine still runs fine with no headgasket problems.......
My theory is that the first headgasket that didn't last because when i torqued the head down, i was actually crushing those copper rings near the #4 cylinder, rather than the surface of the headgasket, so it didnt seal properly. The second time, the copper rings were'nt interfering with the sealing surface between the block and the head. Just figured this might help someone out . ![]()
