New to the forum, a Canadian, so i'll cut right to the chase.
I have a 95 Civic Si with a B18B1 swapped in. I have decided to go LS-Vtec, so I have been gathering parts and been looking around and asking around for my best options for a mild built LS-V. Engine: B18b1 Bottom End (stock) 95 GSR head (mild pnp, decked, cleaned) Stock internals (I still have to open it up, I was told it may have crower springs) 2000 SiR (US Si) S4C tranny GSR Intake Mani (disabled IABs) JDM ITR Header The plan is to run the stock bottom end, and the stock redline to keep things simple. I am using ARP head studs, the Golden eagle vtec conversion kit (head gasket, external oil lines, dowls, etc) My goal is NOT for a full race trim engine. I am looking for a reliable daily driver that doesn't need to rev high to make decent power I have been told that the only way to make power is to rev the hell out of things. Which sure is fine, but I am not looking for an 8500rpm redline, I don't see the need. I would like to have the redline slightly higher, but nothing in the way of having to balance the entire the assembly, and have an engine that needs a rebuild every year. (keep it under 7500) questions, right. Am I completely off my rocker for wanting a lower revving ls-vtec? Will I make any decent amount of horsepower? Is keeping the IABs open an easy and viable option? What about water/oil pump/timing belt? (engine is at 90,000kms) Will I need stronger rod bolts if I am looking for a 400-600rpm increase in redline? Thanks in advance any other tips PLEASE POST THEM |

2. Yes, id say between 150-160 at the crank 3. Yes 4. you should replace the water pump, and purchase an ITR oil pump 5. Stock rod bolts should be okay No new advice, you seem to be on the right track. Youll have a good setup and youll see decent gains in power. keep us updated. most of us like to see how projects are turning out. __________________

the GSR IM is going to kill you...go aftermarket..that is the weakest part of this setup, other than that, you are on the right track....I would also suggest using ARP rod bolts....for $45, its cheap insurance for one of the weakest points on a stock LS bottom end.
