I'm thinking of putting CTR pistons into my first gen b16. What compression would I get and can I run 91-octane fuel safely? If not would it be worth it to get ITR pistons?

um, your compression would not be affected, but you might wanna get new valvesprings and retainers because the ctr's make power above that of the b16 cams. you would not want to put in itr pistons, as they would either cause the same c/r if not reduce your c/r because they are meant for the itr stroke which is longer than that of the b16...your best bet would be getting ctr pistons.

usdm b16 c/r = 10.205320397414986

usdm b16 with itr pistons = 10.194654591216547

usdm b16 with ctr pistons = 10.801068956759683

this can all be found on this site which i found in the HS FAQ forum when building my motor http://www.c-speedracing.com/howto/compcal...lc/compcalc.php

*edit . . . i'm running 11.1 to 1 compression and use 93 or 94 octane at all times

itr pistons do not directly bolt onto b16 rods... some modification is needed however ctr pistons are plug n play

show me a piston that "bolts" on to a rod

as far as i know all b18 or b16 pistons can be used on b18 or b16 rods

i have stock jdm b16 pistons pressed onto stock usdm ls rods in my ls motor

LS rods and B16 rods can use CTR pistons or B16 pistons. But If you want to use ITR/GSR pistons you have to shave the piston because the rod is wider.

that compression calculator is garbage.
there is no way CTR pistons in a B16a block gives it only 10.8:1 CR, that is the CR of CTR pistons in the B16B!! and the B16B have the same deck height as the gsr/itr blocks, that compression calculator thinks the B16a/b blocks are the same... no way jose. CTR pistons in a B16a wil give you around 11.6:1 CR

if you put CTR pistons in a B16a block, you will have a higher compression ratio than any type-r, so your point B is not valid.
you should be ok on 91 octane, get it tuned.
