Default Vitara's and a d15b

Hey guys i have a D15B jdm vtec i recently rebuilt.. ported head, supertech valve springs and retainers, crower stage 2 cam, y8 aem cam gear, arp rod and head bolts, and basic bolt ons tuned on crome... and this is what happened after my retainer broke and i dropped a valve....

Now i am going to rebuild with eagle rods a vitara's if i can. the only thing i was wondering if i will run into any problems with them.

P08-dome(-4.5 cc), compression height(27.4 mm), piston to deck height (-0.016)
vitara- (-15 cc) (28.3 mm) (-0.052)
I used the calc from zealautowerks.com for the specs.. I guess my question is will i have any compression height issues with the vitara pistons?

Thanks for the help

Yes. Your compression will drop to I believe 7:8 or somewhere around there with any other type of rod besides FJT's custom i-Beams, which actually bring up your compression to 8:8. I've read a lot of articles about Vitara's and I got the information straight from FJT's posts in other sites. Here is the link to the site...FJ Distributors

This next link shows the thread started in TurboD16.com that talks about the custom i-Beams. There is a really good thread on that site that actually tells about the compression bump with the custom i-Beams, which you will be able to find. Turbo D16 • View topic - 2nd batch: Custom Forged I beam rods. Official List

Best of luck on your rebuild and I hope that I was somewhat helpful to you.

Thanks for the help... but correct me if i am wrong... i figured that the vitaras would stick out too far on the d15 but if i go custom with the rod and lower it won't it effectively lower the compression with it? and the rods i seen that they were selling were for the d16 and they are roughly 1.5 mm longer to get the piston up in the d16. Do they have a shorter rod for the d15?

You know, you may have something there. haha Check around TurboD16.com for threads started by FJT. I BELIEVE he talks about D15b's somewhere in them and explains everything for you. If not, check out the site as I have only really looked for information on Z6's and Y8's.

FJT actually has shorter rods for the D15B.

You should be fine btw. CR is like 8.2

thanks for the help... so do you think i would be ok with the stock rod lenght on the motor? even though the vitara's will sit slightly higher in the block?

Thanks for the compression info, Kevin. Rep! I wouldn't learn anything if others wouldn't teach it just like that.

They should be fine; the top of the piston goes up only about .9mm from stock, and sticks up about .55mm. The stock headgasket is about 1mm thick; plus there's extra volume in the combustion chamber(vs. a Y8 head that has the quench pads).

BTW, I'm working on a build that has the pistons sitting much higher(roughly .9mm above deck...flat top pistons) Don't know if it'll work yet.

Alright thanks... i wasn't for sure if that little bit would create any problems...
