You say "TRIED". Was it hard to down shift and you finally got it in and when you lifted on the clutch, it bogged?? The force might have finally taken it's toll on the CV joint.

And you said "STEEP". Which way? up or down. Might have sucked up crap from the tank. (pull the filter and drain in a glass jar to see what comes out. CHEAP too) If crap comes out you may have to pull the fuelrail and injectors for the little screen on the top to clean them and where they go in too.

Alarms: Break a window, pop the hood, cut the battery cable. No one is wiser or gives a shit because alarms go off all the fucking time.

The alarm is toast. It'll cry for the 8 seconds it takes the thief to do said actions. Even if you have a battery backup alarm, the thief can still yank the wires to the siren.

Then you have those big ass wheel clamps. Not only is that a total pain in the ass, but a flatbed with a winch is still going to drag your car up onto it without breaking a sweat. Same with a steering wheel lock, or a removable steering wheel, or the club, or any of that shit.

If they really want it, they will take it. And there is nothing you can do about it. Just be smart, do have an alarm to deter the wannabe's and amateurs, and carry good insurance so you can get your car replaced when it draws the attention of the pros.

The map on the throttle body is the one you want to use. There is also a purge cut off solenoid valve mounted on the firewall next to the factory map sensor.. That might be the thing you are trying to identify.. little round cylinder shaped thing with 2 vacuum hoses on it? One runs to the IM and the other to the charcoal canister?

If not an EF, what car are we talking about here? You have any pics?
