My advice is this, If the fans are coming on at some point, your fans are fine. This sounds like you have air in the water system or your temp sensor on the side of the cylinder head is bad. This temp sensor/switch is cheap even at the dealer. I would replace it. To see if you have air in the system you should have whats called a bleeder valve on top of the thermostat housing, if not then you must do it from the top of the radiator by keeping the cap off and just letting it idle for a while to get all of the air out of the system.

I have another 96 Accord EX Vtec Auto vehicle and I took the good working cluster/speedo out of it and put it in this Accord with the speedo problem and the same thing, no dice.. I have also checked all fuses several times, replaced VSS, replaced top solenoid on tranny, checked all wiring throughout the car. Still no speedo and now the CEL on again with P0501 code which went away when I disconnected the battery.

I don't know firsthand if it's true, but some have said that their speedometer was off if the final drive gear was a different ratio.

Have you tried looking on E-Bay? Try that, and then also try www.3geez.com, it's a forum specifically for 3rd-gen Accord enthusiasts, so you can see what the guys there are doing for intakes. Also, a company by the name of "Spectre" sells pieces that you can use to build your own custom intake. Look them up online or just check your local auto parts store. A lot of the chain stores will sell Spectre pieces...

That's just... holy fuck. You sir are bad ass. I know it was illegal and all that, but you lived out my wildest fantasy. As you say though I bet having a criminal history is a big inhibition to getting car-related jobs. I'm just glad to hear they didn't bust your face on the ground or some crap, and I hope county lockup wasn't too bad- at least you didn't have to go to prison. Geez man, the size of your balls:

If I could give you double rep for that I would- one for having the boldness to outrun the cops and another one because if you were outmaneuvering that many Crown Vics you really must be a hell of a driver.

Oh and there is an idle control sensor/unit listed for that on Advance's website, so I suppose you could try that first, it looks like there are two separate units listed for that, and they aren't cheap either. Again, if this were my car, I'd be doing plugs and fuel injector cleaner first, then I'd probably get ahold of a used set of those idle controls. Then last I would try the MAF if nothing else seemed to fix it. I know throwing parts at it is kinda shitty, but it beats paying a shop even more for just one thing.

I put everything together and I can't get the car to start. The fuel pump isn't starting and there is no spark at the plugs. The coil is getting current and so is the fuel pump main relay but there is no fuel pressure and no spark. Is there, maybe, a plug that I didn't connect or is it possible that I just put things together wrong? I have been trying to see what I didn't plug in and I can't find it. I think I'm going to just take the intake manifold off to see if I missed something under it. What do you think?

What does VTEC have to do with the transmission?

Actually, let me answer that: Nothing. It has absolutely nothing to do with the functioning of the transmission.

An LX/DX transmission should work fine on an EX motor...
