Help

People , I race my car yesterday, ran excellent , but for some reason started to do something totally weird , imagine that car has a bad spark plug , like working in 3 cylinders, then if you open the throttle a little bit , i goes like normal, I think it didn't lose power cause i drive it home no problem , I didn't push it hard anyways, is not afr cause my wideband reads it fine, I think is like burning oil , cause is smoking . I checked the turbo to see if that was the reason , but it's fine , I changed the spark plugs and same thing , what I notice is that I disconnected the line long time ago that goes from intake manifold to a box close to the oil pan under the intake manifold. and now from the line that comes out from the box under the intake manifold is smoking and blowing with more pressure than before, and it seems to be piston #3. ... head gasket ??? , piston broke ?? , , is running stock internals on 9psi, well tunned , dsm 450cc injectors, Apexi SAFC, AEM Wideband controller, t3/t4, external wastegate. stock ECU P30. ANY IDEAS??

thanks in advance .

What color is the smoke? If it's white then you're burning coolant and it's probably the head gasket.

that 'box' is a catch can. it filters blow by gasses. your running boost, so lots of possibility for crankcase gas. maybe your rings arnt seated well anymore? i dont know exactly, but that's what the box does.

you have the exact same motor as me. and i'm going to boost my stock internals for a while really soon. if u dont mind, what kind of numbers did you make? How long did the tuning process take? How much did the tune cost? And how much fun is it? :) appriciated!

what you can do is pressurize the cooling system and see disable the fuel and see if you get any coolant spatter on no3 spark plug after cranking had a similar problem with my ef and it was the head gasket another sign is your boost will drop out slightly

Problem

found the problem , we took the head apart and piston no3 is broken between rings  .. , cylinders are great , nothing happen to them what would you people recommend on this case ? ... here are my options... thanks a lot people.

having in mind that I want 250whp and 10psi boost... or other ?

cheap :

eBay Motors: Low Compression Pistons Kit Civic Si Type R B16A Vtec (item 150210861592 end time Feb-04-08 05:14:14 PST)

expensive :

eBay Motors: EAGLE RODS WISECO TURBO PISTONS HONDA CIVIC SI B16 81 (item 250210991141 end time Feb-01-08 08:23:32 PST)

I never did hp numbers , a piston broke before I get there.
don't go over 7psi ,,, get 450cc injectors, and APexi SAFC NEO , AEM Wideband , and 3 min turbotimer, and you will be fine, how much hp you want at the end of the proyect.? and I tune it myself , a lot of funn !!!!

yeah i'm gonna street tune it myself with a PLX wideband on my Hondata S200, and then take it to a professional tuner and see how close I came. This will be my first experiance with tuning, so I'm gonna take it slow and verify my results.

down the line i want to rebuild the entire motor. i got a 14b off my friend for nothin. i'm just gonna run that for now. this is a temporary turbo. honestly i dont care how much power I make with this setup. 200whp would be nice. but i'm just looking to get any reliable power increase to be temporary till i can save up the money for a full rebuild and good turbine and such.

i can get some 450 dsm's off him for nothin too, but i'm under the impression i have to run a resistor box. i havnt researched it yet. i dont want to run a resistor box, i'll just buy some saturated RC injectors if i have to.

thanks for the input. helps my lack of experiance.

my suggestion is to get the eagle forged rods and pistons. even if your not taking advantage of them, you can be confident they will be reliable because of the overkill. my friend's friend is runnin those with an eagle crank in his 4G63 @ 28psi pushing 650whp :)

OMG - 650whp .... I almost get crazy with the 200whp I had on my hatch, I think Im going to buy the wiseco pistons and eagle rods, I need to be safe .. I don't want to screw it up.

always better to be safe than sorry

pics

pics after my bad luck !!! , well , at least cylinders were not touched at all !!!

ya man looks real clean. nice motor. i'm not a fan of ebay stuff either though. i'm just gonna save up the ~$800 or so and buy a brand name, some thing like Full Race, in ramhorn style. i'll have to make a custom flange to mount it to the turbo but no biggie. the turbo is going on next winter. just going to casually save up and buy all the parts over the summer. i dont make all that much money, i'm just good at being paitent and saving. not to mention tax retuns should buy me the manifold

yeah it doesnt look too bad. atleast you caught it. i'd recommend getting a hone before installing the new pistons. should make your rings seal better, even if they look good. give it a fresh crosshatching

A hone is a service you can get done to the cylinders. it is a resurfacing of the cylinder walls. any machine shop should be able to do this. it involves removing a very very fine layer of metal from the cylinder walls to remove any wear or uneveness.

as an internet deffinition:
Hone- A method of finishing a hole or other surface to a precise tolerance.

pistons

I went for the forged ones !!!! , I think Im going to have it ready for next week !
