I have never had a boosted car and I recently got a free turbo so I am thinking about using it. From what I found online it is an IHI RHB52W. Looks like it had an internal wastegate but someone ground par tof it off so they could run an external wastegate. Does this make sense (sorry if these are douche bag questions but I am new to forced induction)? Anyway what I wondered is if this is a good starting point for a Y8 or a Y5. I have both. I want to play around with it and familiarize myself with turbos so I can build something bigger and better later on after I make all my screw ups on this project.

Not sure what type of power gain I could expect from this turbo. From what I read you can only run like 8 psi or something but what info I have found on this is limited...I do know it is from a Ford, probably Probe or T bird. Should I use this thing or am I wasting my time? Anyway opinions and or help on this would be helpful.

Its a good brand... Borg warnner. I dont know what it came off of. Is there any shaft play?

No play. I had a couple guys look at it and they said it is in good condition....better thatn what they run in their cars. It is off of a Probe GT or a T bird from what I found. Mazda used them too I guess.
