Hot mess
OK! so...

i asked a friend out of curiosity.. i cant spell... if the turbos you see on Ebay for like say... 150 to 200 bucks are even worth the money??

he told me that there ok the only major thing you have to watch out for is that the oil line they come with stock for the feed end is WAY to big and can allow to much oil pressure in blowing the oil seals in then turbo, other then that... there decent you just have to get a oil restricer...

any one have any comments on this, I trust his word i just wanted a 2nd opinion kind of like going to more then 1 doctor if he says u need ur balls cut off! hes build a few cars.. one being a 400+whp D16 turbo.

soooo comments?

and thats all she wrote huh? any experience? any other opinons
well theres tons and tons of feedback on them, but my friend bought one last year it lasted a week then the seals went

everyone will have there own opinion but there is tons of bad feedback for ebay turbos, there glued together ya know

your serious? as in... were talking GLUE, GLUE like how... elmers is glue!

in the end... i wouldnt have anyways. but i did want peoples opinions... if they were decent. then i might have considered it at that point.. who dosent wana save alittle money?

Saving money is good.. but usually cheap car parts on Ebay are trash.

Nothing wrong with asking though.

any turbo that might be good for running a B18... say to.. support about 300-350 WHP that could be found from a stock vehicle... possibly in a junk yard?

dude. stop fucking around man. you get what you pay for. your motor isn't something you wanna fuck around with. it's the same concept as putting dirty oil in your engine. would you do it? no. so why fuck around and put something ghetto on your car? you could risk fucking up a lot of stuff. i would watch what you do to you car, unless you got an extra 4-5k to buy another motor.

cliffs: don't ghetto it. do shit right the first time.

well do to contrary belief its not always you get what you pay for. if you get that turbo from ebay. and install it correctly. and have everything the way it should be oil feed being a small enough to hold back the oil pressure. then you prob will be fine. but if you abuse it which you can do to a better quaility turbo like a garret or hks then it will die on you. I have other than my civic. a 98 cavalier 2.2 single cam push rod motor. that we decided would be fun to make into a sleeper. i bought a kit off of ebay t3/t4 turbo and all that good jazz. on a stock motor at 13 psi it puts about 245hp to the wheel 276 ft/lb and i have over 12,000 miles on it. and yes i beat it to death before someone says that i baby and thats the only reason it stays together. the biggest thing with those turbo's are the bearings, they are cheap. so you have to spend the money on the oil changes. i mean the 9 dollar a quart stuff and i change it every 2k and i run my turbo timer for 4 minutes just to make sure i don't slime up the bearing. its a good starting point for a budget turbo set up and since they are knock offs of garrets or hks. you can always upgrade later and you intercooler piping and downpipe will match right up for the most part.

Testament to E-Bay bought Turbo's is in the negatives, I know a few people who have done it, including 2 members of my own team that had problems within the first few runs actually. I'm going to agree with the masses, for the most part you shouldn't BS on integral parts of your cars overall performance, such as the motor, head, tranny and in this case the Turbo's. Spend the money you need to spend now, get it done right, and BE PATIENT...#1 reason people buy cheap parts is because they are in a rush to gain higher power, wait, plan, and then buy.

well I can say that is not the same quality as turbonetics and garret , but I installed my turbo kit from ebay and it gave me a hard time installing plus the tweaks and everything but I get it done right and now works perfectly , what I can't tell is how long is going to last. plus I bought the safc NEO and Innovate LC-1 Wideband controller so I can tune it up the best I can , sometimes is not be cause we want to hurry to get power , sometimes is because we cannot affort something that expensive as turbonetics or garret. I recommend the ebay's , but if you have the money to get one of the expensive ones , it's even better, it depends of how much money you HAVE to spend on your car, plus how confident you want to be with the setup . be cause if you have a cheap one , you have to take care of him very much.. here are the pics from my proyect

I went the turbonetics route. Cant go wrong . IMO ebay turbo's are junk. I have seen first hand how many people come in the shop bitching, whining, crying cuz they need a new turbo. (We always recommend Turbonetics or Garrett.) Number one reason is because they buy it from ebay. Second reason is because the mofo's internals are made of shit quailty. So you will get shaft play just from Daily driving the thing. That causing excessive bearing wear. Now your throwing oil into the exhaust, smoking like a bitch. I say if you want a reliable fast machine, dont cut the corners. You can do the ebay route. Go ahead. Just dont bitch about it later 2-6 months down the road when you have almost replaced everything but the intercooler and piping.

Your money, your car, do what you want to.

I agree. I steered away from the cheap turbos. I'm not saying I didn't still do a budget build. I just bought a 42/48, rebuilt and upgraded the intake side to a 60 housing. I wasn't completely satisfied with the output and ended up getting a 60/63 anyway but I could have done that from the beginning and rebuilt that for only a little more than the cost of the cheapies.
