Default 91 CRX Si

My roommate has Si that had its distributor rotor, spark plug and cat. replaced. He drove about 150 miles (from redding to sac) and just barely made it back and it just died on him. He had to push the car to the lot.

We thought it was the battery, but it usually doesn't die unless the alternator is messed up when the car is already started, right? Anyway, every time we start it, the car cranks but wont turn over and it back fires. You can hear popping and see black smoke come out of the tail pipe.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

wow, that was super lame. we called around and someone suggested the screw that holds the rotor in place may have came loose and thus making the engine not fire right or at all. low and behold, when we were taking the cover off to the dist. a tiny little screw fell out. we popped that in place and gave it a crank and viola! life! the only concern now is if itll unscrew itself again because it was at a weird angle and we dont know if we were able to screw it tight enough.

lesson, what ever that was broke and got "fixed", check that first if it breaks again.
