Default Acceleration Issue

I have a 93 del d15. When the car starts off it usually has no power until it get to around 4500 rpm. would a sr intake help eleviate the issue or would it be a problem with a sensor or just a worn out 156000 mile d15, thanks

you cant expect that much power from a 1.5 down low anyway. did you just get the car or something? or is this a new occurance with it?

Exclamation

Just got the car, this dude thought it need a clutch, it wouldnt even drive so he gave it to me for free...... I took it home and checked the fluids for the hell of it. It just needed Cluthch fluid!

i cleaned the points on the cap and rotor and slaped on a sr intake. It gave it better throttle response when i start off. But there still is a lingering problem with acceleration, Almost like maybe there is a fuel problem, its real signifigant even for a d15. It feels almost like its starving or getting flooded without the smell of gas. I will be junking the motor and trans soon and doing a swap to a b18c5 or if I'm lucky enough a b18c spec R series but until mid summer i still want to enjoy the car as is, i cant figure out if it may be a tps or other sensor, like most of us if when there is a slight stupid prob with our cars it drives us nuts until we figure it out, so any off the wall ideas could be helpfull.

But in all seriousness now, you never told us if there is a check engine light. Ignition timing could also be the culprit.

There is no lights on, but funny you ask, i just talked to guy that gave it to me. He said it got a new timing belt/chain and this is when an acceleration issued started for him, but for him it was around and after 4000 rpm, since i have been driving it it is before 4000 rpm sometimes and never after, when it gets around 4000 it takes off like it were a vtec but its not its a d15, so maybe the timing should be adjusted, last time i used a timing light was on my 91 acura ls and i dont really remember how i did it to fix it that was 10 years ago and a first and last

B18C5 = Integra Type R

No the b18c5 is a usdm with 195 HP at 7800 Rpm and a b18c spec R is a JDM version with 210 HP at 8100 RPM and they both have different compression ratios both engines are found in the 97 -2000 integra type R but produced in different countrys

Well now that you say that the problem started right after the timing belt change, it makes me believe that the cam timing is off a tooth or 2. Rotate the crank pulley to the TDC mark is alligned with the marker on the lower timing cover. Pull the upper timing cover and make sure the cam is also at TDC.

Thanks I'll give it a try tomorrow and see if it ligns up. If not is there a solution without taking the chain off or is it a matter of just advancing the timing if at all possable.

First check the ignition timing. It should be set to 16 degrees btdc (at least thats what it is on my 18c.) If that doesn't fix it check the cam timing. If it is off, you need to pull the belt off and reinstall it when everything is alligned correctly.

It was raining today so i couldnt mess with it but i did scrub off some grease from the block and seen that its a d15b7, wow i never drove anything with a little over 100 HP... so i thought, its funny i used to have a 95 deli sohc vtech D15Z1, it's funny how my 93 non vtech seems faster i was always trained to believe through hype that sohc vtech had better hp and torque specs than non vtech sohc. quess i was wrong............

the vtec motor has more power, the non vtec motor has different gearing in the trans to make it feel like it has more power

Actually the non-vtec d-series motors come with even taller gears than the vtec engines. This is because they are purely for gas mileage.

Sounds like my car did before I tuned it. I'll bet the torque doesn't peak until somewhere around 4 grand or so.

There are not very many hills in my town but i got a chance to encounter a few and every time i enter a incline it loses hp until around 4000 and even so it bucks just a little bit until i crest the hill, this is now making me think not a timing problem but maybe a fuel pump and fuel filter change, what do you think?, also the middle resenator pipe after the cat and before the muffler rattles i got under the car and shook this renenator pipe and the internal tube i think is completely seperated, could this cause a restriction before 4000 due to a lower exhaust pressure or a combination of both fuel restriction and a blown resinator?????

the rattling sound is more then likely coming from the heat shield on the cat, there is an upper and a lower heat shield and you can remove both very easily. if you think there is a hole in the piping it will have a flutter sound to it and it will cause you to loose some back-pressure, resulting in lower performance and a decreased fuel economy

I understand what your saying and i know what to expect as far as performance engine, but There is def. a problem with fuel/spark/whatev. Something is not right mechanicaly, even brand new or used it should not buck the way it is, its not bucking violently but in a way that is not normal for a car. I'm not a car expert but I do know only cuz Im the only one who can give you an idea of how it drives that its more than just being a D15B7. But once again all input is greatly appreciated, I love this Forum and It has so much useful info, Best one Ive been a part of yet, Great Job Guys......

yes, i've heard many times now how consistantly awesome this forum is

if you could possibly make a video of the issue, that could help. if you do, try and keep the camera mainly on the guages, so we can see what your tach is doing when it happens.

to me sounds like timing could be off. i skimmed, but couldnt tell; have you got around to checking that yet?
