They are badass when built correctly. Throwing a vtec head on a stock ls block like you have isnt going to be shit. But if you are willing to buy rods, pistons, and a vtec transmission also you could make it fairly quick.

yes i agree and i have been researchin these monsters for quite a while now. another question im in the process of choosing a head and dont kwow if it should be gsr, b16, b20, or an itr head. i want the best compression for the price and i also plan on turboing sooner or later. and i know compression isnt just the head its everything in your engine. i was thinking p73 or itr pistons

high compression pistons
sturdy rods
a nice flowing head best would be ITR or CTR, then GSR, then B16
headers and exhaust.
basically you want lots of air to fly in to the engine and then get squished down explode and then get the heck out of there as (quickly) as possible.

spend some money on aftermarket pistons and cams and you'll be ballin'

no, no, no. you will spend at least $2k on a gsr swap. for that amount you could turbo the ls, which is what i suggest.

a vtec head will basically give you a gsr only with a little more power. i don't know what the hell a vtec transmission is though.

if you want to keep it all motor, check this link out. i would really suggest this if you dont' want to go turbo.

By vtec transmission I mean one out of a si, gsr, or type R "DUH" A ls transmission has shitty gearing for an all motor setup!

lol you still wont be original...but you'll be in a smaller group.

i know you want vtec, and you want more power. get some toda vtec killers and forever hear it scream lol. no variable lift, but agressive as hell!

you didn't read that thread did you. those cams make it like it has vtec all the time. and who cares if you have vtec? the money you spend on a vtec head could be invested in building your motor and it will be faster than the ls/vtec.

lol i know that's what i'm sayin. put the vtec killers in the ls motor (granted, i didnt go look if they make them for that head), then he'd have lift higher than vtec anyway, eliminating the need for it's "power". but it would be super agressive at all times. it was kinda more a joke, not daily driver friendly whatsoever, but possible (if they fit)

You can improve the ls head with upgrading the valvetrain, but it will never compare to the vtec head when it comes to flow characteristics and potential power gains. If you want to do the ls/vtec get a b16 swap and sell the shortblock. Just keep the head and the transmission.
