ok so...
so im new to the whole game. after being ripped off one to many times ive decided to start doing repairs myself. (whatever i feel i can do). i started with brakes, rotors, dist. cap, plugs, wires, etc.
now i know that i plugged the new wires in to the cap right, but upon starting my car it was running real hard, w/no power. so after checking my connections it was still hard. a guy at the hobby shop said i had my wires wrong and tried to fix them. long story short i took it to AAA and they said a wire was wrong and fixed it ASAP. later my check engine light came on and after getting the code read i discovered the catalytic converter was performing below efficiency. ive read this could be a direct result of the misfires that were taking place.
my question is if my cat is indeed "plugged" do i need to replace it? i didnt want to start modding my car until the parts actually went out so here is my chance i guess. ive seen the random technology cats but is that a pretty straightforward install with no welding? and im not so much interested in performance due to the wimpy engine i have but what would you all recommend if i am trying to keep the cat and muffler price tag below $400 (if possible) w/o a shitty sound. thanks for your help. my specs on my car is as follows...
2000 Honda Civic HX ... no mods all stock. thanks again
